Default Cometic with O-ring Head?

Is this okay to do or would I be better off using a wide fire HG?

Again, I might have been too vague. I have an O-ringed head and I also have both a wide fire HG and a Cometic HG. Which would you go with? It appears that the Cometic is of better quality but I'm not sure as to whether it would be okay with the O-ringed head. Any thoughts?

from my recent research on the same topic, you just need a super clean smooth surface for Cometic gasket. Smooth true and clean = good. O ring = bad.

After a search of my own it looks like the widefire HG is the one to go with.

Not going to say it's the right way, but my head was already o-ringed when I made the Cometic switch. Developed a slight weep after 5-6 years and 60 k miles, installed a new Cometic and all is well after another 15 k miles. YMMV

Well thats what I'm saying, the head I have is already all fancy with intake porting, stiffer springs, and an o-ringed surface. Now your saying that you got nearly 60K out of it before you had issues. To me, 60K take a very long time to put on this non daily driver.

I still wonder, widefire or cometic? I have both in my possession right now. What do I do?

Both will work ( I have used both) and I don't think you can go wrong either way.

That makes me feel better. Eitherway, I'll have a worthy spare in that case.

Read that also before I switched to Cometic years ago, that is why I said in my first post "not going to say it's the right way "

Just saying it can be done with o-rings, then again I do some weird things, no balance shafts, no belt covers, no downpipe bolt, rear wiper delete

We have a BMW we built that makes 800WHP,runs 30 psi with C16, daily driven has an o-ringed block with Cometic headgasket. No headgasket leaks or issues. The thing is the o-ring can only stick out of the surface a couple thousandths or you will get leaks with a Cometic gasket
