Child car seat for rear seat? Suggestions anyone?
I know people have done this - a childs car seat for the back seat. My wife has gone aout and bought a couple now and neither one fit in the narrow little bucket. Can anyone offer up a brand/model that will fit?
My 3-year old is chomping at the bit for a ride in the car, and one of the reasons I have this car is because of the back seat and the 'ability to take all the kids to school' in the morning ...
Thanks in advance for the help/suggestions guys!

I always thought the back seats in the 924/44/68 were child seats.
Seriously though, wouldn't they be safer just strapped into the regular seats with a generic booster cushion. Otherwise the original Porsche part # was 94452205101, other #'s for 944 child seats are part #0008021504 and #92852205000. Pelican carries the last one for $100, other part #'s are from dealers only.

well...I use an eddie bauer seat in my 86 and it works well...ratched down with one of those belt tighteners from babys r us...and I just got my shoulder belt from pepparts and will be moving to a costco 5pt booster seat soon..it's very low profile an looks like it will fit well...

I had the same problem, and found one. Kid grew and it's in the garage attic now. I"ll get up there tomorrow & let you know what brand. Searched forever to find one the sits down in the seat well and fit between the seat belts. Plus it sits the kid high enough that he could actually see, big plus.

I've been looking for a car seat that fits in the rear seat also. I've found references to the Porsche car seats but very little first hand experience or even photos to show what the seat looks like. My son at 9mos is getting too big for the infant seat I have been using and I need to find a toddler size seat that fits in the rear. Something that bridges the gap between infant and booster seat.
If your child weighs 30# or more this booster reportedly fits in the bucket style rear seats of older Porsches (once you remove the cupholders).

This guys claims it fits in his 911 rear seat.

Hope this helps.

I just removed the adjustable base from my Cosco Alpha Omega Elite child seat to see how it would fit and was pleasantly surprised (took about 30seconds). I wouldn't call it custom fit but it's close enough. My wife still had plenty of room in the front seat too. I put down a small cheap black carpeted bathroom mat to keep my rear seats in good condition.
My only gripe is the loose fit you get using the auto retract lap belts. With the included rear tether it's reasonably snug but perfection would call for a way to tension the lap belt. I have a couple months to tackle that before my son can ride in a forward facing seat.
I think mine was bought at Walmart for around $110.00 but I did a search and found them cheaper online

I even took some pics!

The men & women of Rennlist are truly too cool!!! Thanks everyone! I will post what I wind up with. My youngest is 3 1/2 years and not quite 40 lbs, so I think I'd like to get a booster type. I'm looking into the link Rick provided, and if that doesn't work out will probably check out the Britax Monarch/Romer Vario. I can't seem to find pic's for any of the part #'s Gina posted ... I'd really like to see it before I buy it. Thanks again everyone

I couldn't find a modern current model seat that would fit in either the rear or front passenger seat. I got a Brittax model that is now discontinued, but on their website said it fits 944's/968's (they have a car selector function). I found someone on ebay who still had a stock of brand new and boxed ones so got that one. However though it fits fine in the rear seats there are three problems:-
1. The seatbelt buckle is mounted on a long wire/cable and when you lock in the seatbelt the buckle is not positioned properly against the side of the seatand prevents you from firmly instaling the seat i.e. it is quite loose and slack and you can't tension the belt. in the event of a crash i'm sure the seatbelt inertia real will lock and prevent forward movement, but you cannot tighten and lock the seatbelt in position like you're supposed to.
2. Because the rear seats don't have much foam or give in them you cannot tension the seatbelt against the seat so again the seat is fairly slack once fitted.
3. Once in position you have no legroom for your child.
I've come to the conclustion that it is not feasible to install a child seat properly in the rear. I doubt even the proper Porsche one is any good (which cost £400 in the UK). I now use the child seat in the front passenger seat (no airbags to worry about) where I can get a good solid and satisfactory installation.

OTT51 - What do you hae the rear tether attached to? How's the seat set-up holding up?
