Default Real Topic:Chip vs. Chip

FYI...I am not a mechanic or tuner...just like to drive my PORSCHE.

Okay, Okay...so I have been defending Autothority chips in the last several threads. And after all I've read it seems as if I should be shot for using them. I thought they were pretty good. No horror stories of tuning, or rough idle or my car runs like crap or having to spend alot of money buying other components to maximize or manipulate them.
So...that being said what IS the best performance, most cost effective chip available that does not require additional "tuning" or components to make them work? Or is their a chip +component X combination that beats Auto? I just want to find the best for my 951...or add to what I have.

I hope I did not start a war....

Cheers.

I've used Autothority, Vitesse, and MaxHP chips. They all were fine except the autothority chips ran more rich. Vitesse and MaxHP both run excellent and, while I don't have AFR monitoring, don't give me the black cloud of smoke the autothority chips did.

The Autothority and Vitesse chips were AFM chips, and the MaxHP chip is what I have with my SciVision. If you want more opinionated answers from me, feel free to PM me.

Around here, Autothority chips are known for making the car go rich and lean at bad times..
My 951MAX chips was awesome until I wanted to make one change to my set up...
Vitesse Racing chips seem to have the best reputation by far; with a track record for having your AFR's ~95% perfect out of the box... I haven't used them, but that's what is *usually* heard around here.

Like at more than 15psi? I actually have been running 18psi with a 3 bar FPR on those chips for over a year, no problems...other than running super rich

I would have to say Vitesse. It is the best, out of box solution out there. We are lucky to have someone so dedicated to advancing the technology and tuning of a 20+ year car. I have run both his AFM chips and have had his MAF setup and or turbo on three different 951's.

Borys,
but what makes it better? the hp & TQ numbers seem to be very similiar. Does their chip make the car that much faster? I am really thinking of switching...just seems like everyone likes a different one.

Nope, he sells a Plug and play harness, but that is for the MAF setup. The AFM chip is just a chip like the rest. If I remember correctly, he said recently that even his afm chip were going to require an upgrade to a 3bar FPR.

Well then I stand corrected. I did not know he sells a plug and play harness!

My Vitesse AFM chips required a 3bar FPR.

thanks for the input...looks like I'll contact Russell and Vitesse and see what their take is on my existing set-up.
Cheers
