Default preferred brand of replacement cat?

Hey all. Just failed emissions in NJ (NOX) and it will probably be the o2 sensors of a cat...figured before I took it into the shop to have it looked at I should be ready to order a cat myself vs letting the shop potentially over charge me for one. Is there a preferred cat (prolly high flow since I will be replacing the exhaust soon) on the market? Or should I just opt for one that matches up with the ehaust I plan on purchasing?

Are the lower cost options get what you pay for, or reasonable solutions?

Any feedback would be great.

Tim as SFR or Lindsey Racing both sell high flow cats. Check out their websites:

+1 for Random Tech cats. I've used them on cars I've had in the past and have been very happy with there product.

So which random tech cats are we ordering for 944s?

I don't think there's a difference between n/a and turbo, is there?

Heck yes there is! I just bought a DEC; when I was shopping I think this was the only one I found for the 951.

Also, aftermarket cats only last a few years on a 951, at least for CA limits.

The DEC cat I found works on base (n/a) and turbo....I don't believe there is a difference between the pre 87 cars......

I definatly like the Random Tech cats though. I couldn't find one specifically for a 944, so which universal cat is everyone using?

Sorry - a clarification. "Direct fit" cats are different for the 951 and the N/A. I don't know about "universals." They won't pass a visual in CA.

Thanks...I was leaning towards one of those high flow units vs one of the less expensive ones but didn't know it there was a preference or for that matter another alternative to them...

Borla and Supersprint to make sure they won't melt on the track and you won't loose hp.

putting on the stock cat just for emissions will be a PITA. I'd suggest getting a replacement designed to just slip on quickly.
