Default RPMs and Gear Changes.

at what RPM under normal driving do you change gears?

I change gears at 3k rpm. 1st gear I only take up to 2k rpm.

I am excited to hear! thanks

It depends on how hard I wish to accelerate.

The reason I ask is because a friend of mine believes that my car should be ran at 4 - 6k rpms and boosted at all times. I feel it would be way too hard on her, so I almost never boost. I thought I'd ask the pros.

Is your friend going to pay your speeding tickets ?? cause boosting at 4-6 k rpms will have the Police in your rear view mirror on a regular basis !

I drive normal (shifting around 3k rpm) and only really take it above 4-4.5 if I want to get up and move out quickly.

your friend's an idiot if he/she feels every start should be near max acceleration.

Rolf, sounds like one of my posts, lol. But not me, just check the way I drive my car slow shifting never reaching boost, lol.

Is boosting a turbo car ALL THE TIME "bad" for it?

Thank you for excusing my ignorance.

well race cars are boosting all of the time. Guess how much more often they rebuild race cars?

With a stock car and stock 951 gearing, almost never hitting boost would result in a snail and possibly put strain on some parts due to shifting too early. There is a difference between driving with a bit of spirit and bouncing the valves every time you drive the car.
