My mls head gasket is just slightly seeping so coolant collects where the oil filter housing meets the block after a while. I've let the temp run about 1/4 of the way up where it stays a few times and it was ok for a while but now i just got a little more. The gasket was installed with arp studs and tightened in steps to 80lbs then double checked later on and nothing changed. The head was decked and i sanded the block spotless then checked it for flatness. The oil looks fine and the car runs good, it just seeps. Does anybody whose gone through this have any suggestions? A small amount of stop leak maybe? or does it just take longer to seal?

 

You can take it off and clean it like the first time, and then apply a spray called Hylomar - Its a measured approach before pulling everything and having both the block and heads properly decked and surfaced.

 

I'm gonna try heat cycling it more since its such a slight leak maybe it will go away after a while.

 

Doubt it. Mine leaked from the get go, eventually went back to the wide fire ring style gasket.

Mirror finish seems like the ideal surface, although I'm sure some (most?) have gotten away without this.

I'm sorry to tell you.... 9 out of 10 of my customer use MLS gasket it leaks water, even after decked, machine the head, machine the block, ARP stud(88lb) (75lb)or (15lb-90-90), with cooper sealer or with out cooper sealer..... mother f***er still leaks water, waste $ and time, went back to stock wide fire head gasket no more leak.......also when engine leak water.. water did not go to the oil pan, it all went to tail pipe slowly...

 

Mine leaked. Used the stopleak stuff that they recommended and the leaking stopped. Call Cometic and find out what they recommend. I forgot the name. Fill, let sit overnight, flush and fill again. Pain in the ***, but easier than pulling out the head and starting over.

 

I torqued mine to 90 lbs and it's holding so far, less than 400 miles on new studs and gasket however. I keep checking the coolant level, but no obvious lost. So, I guess there is some hope. Good luck.

Weird, I used the mls gasket twice and no leaks, sold the block to special tool and gave him my mls gasket of 4 years, he re-installed on my block and pulled 543rwhp no leaks reported.

 

I have installed 2 with no leaks. Did you reuse it. I know some people reuse them and they work, but they are meant to be one time use. So when I removed my head I put it back on with a new one. Also while I have made sure the surfaces are clean I have not been **** about it, I just wipe them down with a rag and a little brake cleaner.

I wonder if peole are damaging them during the install, bending or denting them with out knowing.

Many new VW and Audi turbo engines and I would asume Porsche use MLS head gaskets stock. As far as I am concerned they are the only way to go.

 

No leaks here. I used the stock head studs, but I tightened mine to 60ft/lbs. I didnt use any silicone either. Maybe 80 or 90 lbs is too tight and you are warping something?

 

I have Cometic MLS and ARP and no leaks noticed in the engine bay. Although there seems to be more than the normal amount of moisture at the tailpipe on start up. But, no sweet smell, just water, sooo.... ???

 

I've dne about 20 MLS head gaskets on HONDAs not porsches. I always used the copper spray. Always used 3 coats. I did it because that's what the racers do. I wasn't aware it might solve some weeping problems. Not one leak. Out of any of them. Looking back. Glad I used the spray.

 

I also used the copper spray.

 

3 coats, not one thick one, spray let it set, spray again right?

 

last night i ran it for a 1/2 hour then it leaked nothing over night. This makes me think theres still a little chance it may seal after a few heat cycles
