What year WRX? There's a big difference in torque between the pre-2006 ("bugeye") WRX's with the 2.0L engine, and the 2006+ 2.5L WRX's. Boost comes on a lot quicker with the 2.5 as well. I would be curious to compare a 2.5L WRX to a 951S though as they sound very similar on paper (2.5L 240hp turbo 4cyl). The WRX does have 16v to the 951's 8v though, and has much newer technology.

As for the STi... I'm sure it'll smoke any stock 951 from pretty much any speed (If you adjust the center diff, you can get off the line better than a RWD car). Boost takes NO time to come on... mine makes nearly .8 bar at 3000rpm, and by 3500rpm it's easily got full boost. There's hardly any turbo lag at all above 4000rpm. Also remember that the STi has 80hp more than the 951.

Thought the 04-06s weren't considered 'bugeyes' only the <03s are?

Yes, I stand corrected, the "bugeye" is '02 & '03, the "blobeye" is '04 & '05. The changes are only skin deep between the two though (and for the most part limited to only the front end).

I beat one with a 951 that only had increased boost and fuel pressure back when the sti's first started getting popular. My car wasnt running its very best but it did it.

What about with no tow hooks attached?

I have a lot of respect for what the wrx's are capable of & what they did in world rallying, but their "to-go container" construction feel has always put me off. I'd rather have an evo.

For what it is worth. I am a Subaru dealer that has 2 2008 STI's in stock and have sold 3 others. We also get a lot of modified WRX's in here. Most of the time we are repairing the transmissions in the regular WRX's when they are upgraded to much above 250 hp. We also replace a lot of clutches. As far as modified WRX's, I have seen as much as 400 rwhp running 22 lbs of boost. It amazes me that the engines hold up, but they do, Just not the trans's. As far as the New 2008 STI's, they are amazing cars right out of the box. On a dyno they are making around 236 rwhp.(lots of hp loss through the drivetrain.) BUT I bought a 951 back in January. I have owned 944's in the past, and regret ever selling mine. The 951 is very balanced when set up properly and is 400+ lbs lighter. Also I am not a big fan of AWD. When It comes down to it
Porsches are just more fun to drive!!!!

These are quick cars indeed, but the problem with them is that you don't drive them. You just indicate to the computer which direction you want to go and the computer drives the car for you. I've seen them spin off in spectacular style on trackdays because once the car gets beyond the control of the electronics and the fancy 4wd system you are so so far beyond the capabilities of the driver and the chassis that your journey is only going to end up one way in a huge cloud of smoke with a dizzy driver. So depends what you want out of your car. If you want to go fast for the sake of it then they are your thing. If you want to go fast as a result of your own driving ability and skill (more likley to improve your driver skill) then they are the wrong car for you. But on the street they are as quick an A to B car as you can get.

The normal WRX tranny won't hold that much - the input shaft is too long and unsupported. The STI trans is much stronger.

lee101315 , You guys bring up the fact that I didn't drive like an ******* last year at the seven lakes drive. Driving above 90 mph through parks and streets is completely STUPID. I have a business to run and need my license obviusly you must not have a very good paying job by risking your license. I am very competitive in everything I do including boxing so next time you have a negative comment keep it to yourself because I take everything personally. GET IT.
