Oil Cooler line questions
Ok so apparently its my fault that my girlfriend lets her oil cooler drag on the ground, and I was going over a bump, and the line that goes from the oil cooler on the engine to the bottom of the oil cooler got sliced.
My question is are they interchangeable from an 86 engine to an 87 engine, because it looks like it will fit.
Also, my second question is are there any reverse threads on this thing? I got the line off the 87 engine just fine, but I cant get it off the top part of the 86 for the life of me. And I cant get the line of the 87 off the little coupler that connects it to the oil cooler either. Any help would be awesome ive got until Friday to fix this.

I replaced my cooler last year and don't remember any reverse threads. I do recall it being some of the toughest wrench action I have had on the car. I can't remember the order that it finally worked in but I tried to undo every threaded connection on the oil cooling system until I finally got one on the top and bottom to disconnect. I remember that I had to lock the coupler into the vice and used a very long wrench and a lot of force to disconnect the hose. I had previously tried PB Blaster and two wrenches to free hand remove this connection and failed horribly. After the vice experiment, I can say that no human could have free handed this with two wrenches. Once undone, I could find no reason for the amount of force required. Everything looked good.

I too had to use a vise, heat and a pipe wrench to get those bastards off the cooler. Good luck!
Good luck with reaching the side that connects to the engine. A special wrench may be needed.

I ended up getting the biggest, strongest guy in the shop to break the one at the cooler loose. The other end I had to stick in a vice with it still attatched to the cooler. FWIW, I dont think the cooler can be removed with the headers still attatched. At least I have never found a way, and that is even with no P/S stuff to get in the way.
