Default 86 turbo

hi all ive got an 86 944 turbo, the clutch finally packed up,the milage is 150thou.it also needs engine mounts, can feel the engine moving on startup.also i think i have a cracked exhaust manifold can hear it blowing on startup goes away as soon as engine warms up.the question is do i pull the engine for this work or do the clutch from underneath as per normal.you rennlist boys seem to be a lot more organised than the uk with a lot more knowledge and also spare parts

If you know all that stuff is wrong then there could be countless other things wrong with it that you do not even know about. As I mentioned in another post I chose to take the engine out and give it a rebuild. I have found numerous items that had I not removed the engine I would not have noticed. So i feel like I made the right decision. It is a very large undertaking however and you must be prepared for it.

yeah, pull it. All the seals, o-rings, everything on a motor in that "lack of TLC" condition will need ot be checked or replaced. You'll be much happier later. BTW, go over the rest of the car while the motor is out. Wheel bearings, a-arm bushings, fuel lines, brake lines, etc. It's an old car with lot's of miles; go over the whole car and take your time. you'll be happier later...
