To anyone who has worked on the transaxle-
I need to change the transaxle-to-CV shaft seal on the passenger side.
The problem is,one of the cheesehead bolts is stripped, bad. It's one of the bolts on the transaxle side, not the wheel side.
I guess my question is... can i take off the ten or so 13mm bolts holding on the access plate to the side of the transaxle, then let the whole plate/CV assembly drop without unbolting the axle from the side plate?
I seriously hope so... the thing is leaking like a civ, and i can't keep more than a quart of gear oil in there.
thanks in advance!

Just use vice-grips to get out the stripped cheese head -- that's worked for me many times.
You can also drill through the head of the bolt with a bit that's just a smidge larger than the bolt shaft -- this doesn't require the removal of much material, so it's an easy drill -- the head will pop off and spin with the drill bit. Then, after you pull the CV joint off, you should be able to unscrew the bolt by hand.
I've found this to be a great technique for the wheel side bolts, where you can't get vice-grips in the back of the control arm.

Well, that does help a bit, but what about the transaxle seal... If i take off those 10 13mm bolts, can i get at it from behind and not even unbolt the cv from the plate?

The CV mount (on the transaxle side - #11) has a bolt (#12) through the center of it, that you must undo -- then #11, which is splined, will come right out.
THEN you'll be able to remove that cover and change the seal (#15).
