Head rebuild?
Is it worth buying a turbo S head for $250 and having it rebuilt and ported or just have my 1987 head rebuilt and ported? Is there much advantage to the turbo S exhaust side of the head to warrant the extra $250 cost? Also who do you recomend to do the job?

No difference in the heads, an extra head gets the job done quicker with minimal downtime. LR has done 8 different heads for cars we've been a part of, from basic to o-ringed to a II head with o-ring. The guy who does the work is excellent. If you want a cam and head work, Custom Engineered Performance, David has beautiful stuff.

LR also did the headwork on my car (Stage 1, basic rebuild and o-ringed deck). They did a great job.
I have a spare cylinder head (non Turbo S) that i am trying to sell. PM me if interested. I bought it for exactly the reason Ski mentioned, to minimize downtime.

The turbo S head is the same as a Turbo head. What makes a turbo S a 250 hp car vs the 220 of the non S is a different turbo and DME. The other engine parts are the same.

I've read in various places that the exhaust valves were larger on the Turbo S head? For instance on this website?

Quote - "Slightly larger exhaust valves, still sodium (natrium) cooled. Permits better running behavior at full load."
