Default Epic All-time Tech Question...

For the rear (metal) skid plate under the motor, the little frankenstein studs on the rail are both stripped on my car.

Has anyone come up with a good shadetreee fix for us welding-impaired types?

Try running a die over the studs. You may get lucky.

Some have cut the stud off, drilled a hole, and used sheet metal screws there.

Large sheet metal screws are a common fix.

Use a well-nut. http://www.emhart.com/products/pop/wellnut.asp

the rubber will keep the water out and a won't strip out like a sheetmetal screw..

A pop nut works too.. See the same page..

I like the well nut idea - I've used them in other places and they work well. It should be no big deal to just have it chopped off and a new stud welded on though.

My car didn't even have this pan when I bought it, and I don't really miss having it.

Nice solution for something I'm doing. Do you have an online source that sells small quantities?

Not really but you can try, McMaster Carr Supply or a good old google search.

My PO or one of his shops chose to install seriously like 20 little sheet metal screws and pretty much murder the damn plate. It works but it looks really rigged.

Because I know this is a pressing issue for many...

I ended up re-cutting it with an M5 die. It's an even smaller nut, but it tightens nicely now...

Photos? Pardon me, but I have no idea about this rear metal motor skid plate that is being spoken about. I suppose mine has disappeared long ago.

Cut them off , drill new hole, use threading tap and use proper bolts

Do not use stainless bolts .
