Default Electric Water Pump

Has anyone tried one of these?

http://www.daviescraig.com.au/main/display.asp?pid=47

Looks promising I found them in my CDOC catalogue. I might try to adapt my 951 for one of these.

Any comments?

The new gen pumps are supposed to be good but be careful with the controller.
It you leave the thermostat in the system the pump will fail.
If you forget to turn it on the engine will fail (especially on the dyno )

Is there no way to hardwire the system so it just works when the ignition is on and doesn't when it is off?

Yes, but remember that the Thermostat has to be removed. If you run the coolant full blast when it is cold it will take a lot longer to warm up. low temp will add a lot of wear to the engine....

I knew that existed but I was wondering what Chris meant by the controller failing? Did you mean the user?

There are some reports of the daviescraig controller failing (mostly early versions). I think that the controller is a very important part of the system - its not worth the effort unless you use one.

Do you know of people running these types of set ups on 951's? I would love to talk to someone who has this set up.

I wouldn't use it on a street car, the only reason I would use it in a track car is that the original pump was designed for a specifc rpm range - one that I might just exceed by quite a bit on a track car!

Yeah man all is well. I haven't even taken it out of the crate. I almost have the engine out of my car now so then the fun begins. I need to clean up my old tranny and put it up here for sale. WG looks good too.
