Question Machine shop instructions for race prepping a crank?

A local 944 enthusiast that tracks his car would like to have the crank in his engine race prepped.

Can anyone provide fairly detailed instructions of what needs to be done by a qualified machine shop? TIA

crop the counter wieghts down at 45 degrees in the lath and leave abuot a third of it on the OD then and re balance it .
cross drill the smallends that is all nuch more can e done but this is a cost effective balance and plenty for any machine shop whom asks advice gather as many photos as you can

What is his rev limit? Cross drilling is not something that has to be done. IMHO, if your going to do anything, I would perp drill it but mainly, coat your crank bearings.

He's had two #2 rod bearing failures. Don't know what his rev limit is, but wouldn't adding a baffle to the oil pan help?

Obviously if he's serious, he'll just go straight to dry sump. How many more times can you spin a bearing before you pay off the d/sump? Does he race on slicks? If not there is a rumor of a sump mod that can be a very good 2nd place to d/sumping, but I've yet to see it in the flesh.........maybe one day lol...

Oh you dirty little $^$5%!!! That was below the belt, lol..

I Have seen pressure data logs before using and after the install of the accusump and it did cure some pressure dips BUT I have seen it on a few cars that still spun the number 2 bearing. I reality, its a band aid for a serious track car.

I reality, I don't like any drilling of the stock crank but I think, If you must, perp(30 degree's) would be better than cross. For a serious race motor, I'd rather get a new crank made.

How were the accusumps setup on the cars that spun # 2?

In Racing series where dry sumping is not allowed , the accusump is a must , of course not a substitute against dry sumping , but it does help , it was good enough for realtime racing .........and others.......

Thanks A.Wayne. Would you suggest setting it up with the E.P.C. valve kit for a discharge of 55-60 PSI?
