Plasti-Dip mirrors and more..?
Hey all,
I don't know about many others, but for me my side view mirrors are black.. and covered with paint chips. While I have been thinking about other solutions to this like repainting them, getting a touch up paint pen, ext.. I think I will try a different solution.
I have been using the spray can version plasti-dip on my volvos grill and not does it look great, it is holding up extremely well also. This trick has been used with many of the VW and Audi guys (how i found the idea), so I think next week when I am home I am going to paint my mirrors with a can of black plasti-dip .
For those of you who do not know what plasti-dip is, it is a spray on rubber. Awesome thing behind this, it is extremely hard (almost impossible) to chip! It can even be used temporarily by just applying a layer to clean paint, you can simply roll the rubber off! If you do it for a permanent finish though simply sanding down the paint for a nice bonding surface it will stick greatly!
Here is the an example of the grill i painted on the volvo.

You're admitting to owning and driving a Volvo? lol Where I come from only old men in hats drive them and never very well.
That Plastic spray sounds like it does have some uses though.

I have it on the front nose and mirrors of the 944 that sees mostly DE and track duty and I think it works great. It keeps the chips off the entire front end and mirrors. Since my car is black it kind of blends in and almost looks like a bra. You can peel it back off if necessary. Not a good pic but you can see how I did it below.

I wonder how well that would work on an AIR splitter? Would a coat inside the splitter and a coat outside give it enough structural rigidity to protect it for street use?
