Default Early steel control arms on my 86 951

So I just found out that I can run the steel control arms out of my 924S on my 951.

Now, can I use the 968 castor blocks with them as well or do I have to use the 924S castor blocks.

Judging by my parts catalogs, the bushings are totaly different. Maybe due to availability they are not being shown, but the ones they do show don't look like they'd work.

And why would you want to do this?

Ball joints are about $20 per pair. Heck, the control arms are $21 each new. Paragon will sell you a full set for $150 with Delrin and Poly Graphite bushings.

I had been curious about this conversion too, the only real drawback I can see is that you can't use the 968 caster blocks with them. < --- That line should of also answered the question at hand. You have to use the older 924/944 caster plates and bushings.

Easily replaceable balljoints, steel arms are cheap, steel will bend somewhat while aluminum will just snap.

I run them on the track. I had a local welder reinforce them and a friend welded on the brackets for the 968 cooling ducts. They have performed well over the last couple of years. I do visually check them after each track event for cracks. So far so good.

Ive heard of people doing this before.

Ive also heard that they weld the steel A-arms to re-enforce them.... because like Techno Duck said. The steel arms will bend, the aluminum will snap. Plus balljoints are a snap!

Buy a set of solid caster bushings for the back of the arm! After that, hook yourself up with a good welder to have them boxed, and you might have to tinker a little to get the droplinks for the front sway-bar installed.
