Default Where to get replacement Koni struts for 89 951

Hey all, I just got my 89 951 back on the road after if had been sitting for a long time with a blown head gasket. and broken headers. I got a set of used stock headers here and Lindsey rebuilt my head with o-rings and new valve springs and valves.

So I got it running last night with new headers and new head and it runs great, however the car was horribly neglected by the PO so there's still lots left to fix. That's why I've had the car for 2 years and only driven it 900 miles total .

The shocks (especially the fronts) are completely shot and I need replacements. I have the coilover adjustable Koni's from the factory for the Turbo S, where can I get replacements? If I can't get replacements, can I pull the shocks/struts and send them for Koni for rebuilding and what would that cost me?

Also I'm sure every bushing in the suspension is wasted by now, what else should I replace? I've got new front sway bar bushings, but are there any others that wear often? I'm getting a clunk in the suspension every once in a while.

Thanks!

I'm thoroughly enjoying this car again, even more than what I have been driving-- a Honda CBR600 F4i motorcycle and Scirocco 16v

You can have yours rebuilt, or you can buy new off the shelf konis and install them. Paragon Products will have everything you need, including shocks, springs, and bushings.

And nice 'rocco... I used to have an 87 8v. I still lust after a MkI.

Your best bet is to have your struts rebuilt. The cost of new ones, if you can even get them is astronomical (I understand the turbo S Koni's you have are not available anymore). The best price, and fastest service you will find is Truechoice Koni Racing Services

They do not cut the struts for inserts, they are rebuilt identical to original factory spec. They can do the double adjustable option too.

I used Truechoice for my 89 and they did a good job, same as Koni.

Last year Truechoice quoted me $145 each plus parts to rebuild/revalve M030 fronts and $385 each to go to double adjustable (bump/rebound).
Their pricing may have changed some but gives you a ball park.

Here is the "Definitive list" of parts in the M030 for the 951:

1) Koni front struts P/N: 951 343 031 32 (L) 951 343 032 32 (R)
2) Boots P/N: 951 343 529 30
3) Front strut top bearings P/N: 951 343 018 30 ($999ea from dealer!!)
4) Front springs - 1 white/1 yellow 944 343 531 01/104 (#101) OR 2 white/1 yellow (#102) (11.7-12.2mm wire dia.)
5) Front sway bar - 26.8mm P/N: 944 343 706 05
6) Inner drop link bushings (2) P/N: 951 343 794 04
7) Stab. bushings (2) P/N: 951 343 793 30
8 ) Outer drop link bushings (4) P/N: 951 343 795 01
9) Washers (4) P/N: 477 411 043
10) Lock nuts (2) P/N: N 900 876 01
11) Rear Koni shocks (2 white dots at 180 degrees) P/N: 951 333 032 04
12) Rear sway bar - 14mm: 477 511 411 A, 18mm: 477 511 413, 20mm: 477 511 415
13) Rubber mounts (2) - 14mm: 477 411 313 F, 18mm: 477 411 313 B, 20mm: 477 411 313 C
14) Rear torsion bars - 25.5mm 951 333 103 30 (L) 951 333 104 30 (R)

You might consider replacing the rubber parts in the list above. This list doesn't include the front hubs, spindles and calipers, as well as the trailing arms and calipers for the rear. The control arms and trailing arms also have harder rubber in them for M030, but expect to pay a small fortune for those or get some aftermarket bushings pressed in.

The bolts are just things that probably should be replaced along with the rubber pieces, which are different for the M030.

Cheers,

Keith

This is the quote I just got:
"The front struts are $140.00 each and the rear shocks are $110.00 each. Plus parts. Usually $30.00 to $40.00 per unit."

I'm going to replace the sway bar bushings at the same time, is there anything else in the front or rear suspension that would be a common wear item?
