The $1787 price is for the engine wiring harness that goes from the fuse box the headlamps. $1027 IS the correct price for the DME harness as I just purchased one as did a friend for his 89 951. I agree the price is insane, but hey it comes with a new rubber boot for the firewall and the pressure line for the KLR

Thanks for correcting me. I guess I should have been more specific when I asked for an engine harness. That price isn't great, but not too crazy.

Well building one from scratch takes a lot of time. You probably won't be able to get a custom harness made for less than that.

No problem. I do a LOT of business with Sunset. If you get Bob McCarthy (the parts manager) he knows his stuff and will ask you if mean the engine wiring harness or the DME harness. Others may just look up exactly what you describe! Oddly enough, the price for an 87 DME harness was in the $700 price range. Then we found out it was NLA! I guess that was why it was so cheap!

Regarding the engine wiring harness, the 88 is cheapest, followed by the 87, and as you found out the 89 is the most expensive!

Maybe if there is enough demand in the future, Porsche will make more of these and drop the price. I know.....but we can dream can't we

Bret, it would be a big help if someone can build these.

Yes it would Raj. I'll check on it in a couple of weeks to see what's going on with it.

When I start the 2.8L, I'm contemplating changing mine with the new, but then again, they just don't happen to appear every day. Mine is fine, but I'm going to be freshening up a lot of stuff on this build.
Keep you advised on the harness.

You got that right. When I looked into doing 89' harnesses, it was about $1200-1300, if I did 10. The price of wire(metal) going up hasn't helped either.

Back in 2001, I purchased a new DME harness for my 87 951 from Vertex. Price was $189.00. I still have it in the box. Plan to restore the car someday.

I have a used harness for Turbo S which appears to be uncut but only has from the DME connector to the ABS connectors and the plug to the ABS relay. Interested?
