Default Need an Engine Wiring Harness

Hey guys,
I tried starting my car last night, and instead of the car starting I had smoke billow from under the passenger side footwell and from the engine compartment. One of the DME ground wires in my harness has melted, and I need to replace the entire harness. Car ran great before I put her to bed for the winter, and engine wiring harness was a very good used one that I installed during an engine swap last year.

Anyways, car in an '89 951. Not sure if the early wiring harnesses are the same or not. Please let me know if you have a good used harness that you're willing to part with. My email is imivan at telus dot net.

Thanks,
Ian

Send a PM to 968turboS (Raj), he had one from his 89 951 when I was looking for one a couple months ago...

Thanks for the heads-up. I just pm'd Raj.

I also fried my 28-pin DME. I have access to a 24-pin DME, but just curious if anyone has a good 28-pin available, and how much they'd want for it.

Thanks,
Ian

Still looking for a harness. Raj's is not available (he's using it).

Thanks.

Since the harness issue has come up; I gave my brand new one to someone on the East coast, he is taking it to an aftermarket supplier in the harness field to see if they're interested in replicating it and how much it would be. Will advise further, in a new thread when info is more available.

Bret - any ETA on when you'll know more info on this?

Phils87951 - are you saying that the one from George B is in great shape, or that the old one is in great shape? If it's the old one, is it an '87 or newer ('86 didn't have the oil pan level sender)? How much do you want for it?

No, sorry.

There was one on ebay the other day, not sure if it's still there or not. yep

looks like the factory plug for the sender is cut off and the oil sender ends are there, funny, it's usually the other way around.

I saw that one - the oil level sender wire (yellow wire) was missing the plug at the end, and the harness (from the photos anyways) didn't look great.

They are still available from Germany for $1787...lol. I've got an order in for two. Ok not. Ski, hurry up with your research please. I'm in big need of one too and all the used ones that I'm finding are junk.

Just got off the phone with Sunset, 89 is available, $1027, if I heard him right. Then we got to talking about big blacks at $292 ea.

I'll keep everyone advised on what happens, the new one I have is based on a 88 non S, last two part numbers are 03.
Other than the model year, being a different part number, does anyone have knowledge of SPECIFIC differences in late 87 to 89 harness options? I guess I could pull the electrical diagrams out of the book and look for differences...anyone?

Not sure about difference between '88 non S and '89. The one I put in the car (that's now toast) was from an '88 Turbo S, and the only difference I recall noticing between it and my original '89 harness was that my '89 included a ground wire along with the oil pan level sender plug.

Thanks for looking into that price for me. I suppose that's an option if all else fails.

Check with Stuttgart Haus here in NC, http://stuttgarthaus.com/ This guy can find anything, or has it on the shelf. A PCA instructor, 914 racer, and an all around good guy!

Just don't ask him how much.....

Sunset is who I called earlier. They told me $1787 and retail is $2300. I think you may have heard wrong.

Thinking back to my 89 951 harness and a spare I bought (86 i think...not sure), the most obvious differences appears to be the connector in the pass. footwell to the main harness (from the engine harness). The '89 has a flat connector whereas the '86 has a 4 pin square connector...I will have to dig up the spare and take a look tomorrow for the details.
