Default Brightest headlights for 951?

Before I start...this is for my race car...getting ready for the night races at Sebring so no concern for use on the street.

I'm trying to figure out how to get the most light since we'll be racing at night. I've already landed a set of Euro fog lights for a great price & will be putting them in with 100 watt bulbs.

What is the best way to get the most light out of the stock headlight assemblies? I was planning on the Rennbay wiring/relay kit but not sure what to do in regards to lenses, bulbs, etc... I recall finding a thread that had comparative pictures but I can't find it now through multiple searches.

Thanks much,

Rick

I have read the 100watt bulbs will crack the euro foglights lense. Believe Dfastest951 posted that thread.

HID kit for H4s and E code lenses. An aux headlight or two pointed forward and crosseyeing the outer beams would be good too.

Yeah, you need to replace those 20 year old factory headlights, i did NOT see any difference in just replacing the bulb (non-US spec cars did NOT come with sealed beams).

I have some upgraded H4's, but they are designed to fit/replaced US sealed beams, so im getting some used US headlights, convert the car and upgrade them to get the fitments right.

if you're car is US spec, the upgraded H4's drop in without problems. But once you go to 100/80w bulbs, you need to upgrade the relay to 4amps (costs ~$5).

Rennbay seems to have a pretty good offering...wiring harness...E code lenses & bulbs.

Which bulb actually delivers brighter illumination? Hella H4 80/100W High Perf Xenon Bulbs or Hella Yellow Star H4 130/90W Bulbs?

Thanks much,

Rick

i use to have the hella yellow stars but they kept on blowing out so what did was grab a 100w clear bulb, put on a yellow film that you place over the glass housing. So i end up protecting the lens from cracks, i still kept it yellow, the clear bulb burns out less, and if the bulb ever blows out its easy to find a clear bulb than a yellow one. oh yeah and it looks like a lemans car so it has a cool factor lol

Do a search for Iceshark's headlight wiring upgrade. Others here may be able to give you more info. His kits died when he did, but his work will give you an idea how to get the best light.

Definitely, the IceShark kit. I have one on my S2 and out shopping in the rain today I noticed yet again that my headlights were surprisingly the brightest in the city traffic.

There used to be a awesome kit which I have from a lister who has since past. I have 100 watt HL bulbs with CeeBee reflectors and 100 watt driving lights in my Euro Fogs. They work really good. With the brights on I have a total of 4 100 watt bulbs illuminating the road ahead.

The 100w bulbs will crack. I've had three sets of euro fogs thinking it was a fluke. They get so hot they crack the lenses and the bulbs themselves sometimes burn out faster because of the heat. I put a 3m clear shield on the lenses which helped because the first decent rock to hit the lense is where the crack started. They still cracked though. Hella makes an 55w that puts out the same as an 85w bulb and now I think Piaa has a similar one too.

Tip, if you get upgraded lights for both the fogs and driving lights, it will give you an enormous view with both on. The fogs light up the sides of your view, great for corners etc, and the drivers are adjustable so you can point them over the fogs for a fantastic view. On the street, I put them as high as I can without people flashing their brights at me. They work great. I've never, since I've owned my car in 10 years, ever used the popups. I think they make the car look really dates.

DFASTEST--
How are your euro fogs wired? Do you have the Iceshark setup?

georgeleroy, I had it done by a local porsche shop in Vegas. They installed a seperate relay for it and I have another factory switch identical to the fog light switch installed next to it in the dash where there was just a plug. Looks factory and I don't ever blow fuses. Otherwise you will.
