The Swiss S2 transmission code is because the whole transmission is encapsulated in a 2-piece housing made of some synthetic material with noise absorbing material on the inside. There is also an external oil cooler installed.
If you think access is difficult when removing the transmission - try it on one of these........ask me how I know....
No difference in final drive.

The 1991 model year had some other unexpected features, like the central locking module supposedly near the passenger side footwell (I'll be looking for it this weekend) and the 968 speedometer internals instead of the earlier kind.

Just replaced some of the bulbs in that third brake light, special order and a bit tricky to remove.
Yes, my S2 cabrio is US spec and has this light too. Doesn't look bad, although I prefer the clean lid on the Euro car.
