LSD breakout torque spec ??
So when I picked up my transaxle from the gear box (lsd fitment ) man, he made a comment about the car being front wheel drive I had explained to him three times it was not . I was furious . any how he claims I will be happy with it as it is a light car.
IMO not good enough . I explained the application but wasn't there every minute to ram it down his neck .So I want to torque test it before it goes in . what breakout torque should i have for it to be .
The car will be for mainly club stuff on good road rubber interior out fiberglass front about 4to500hp suspension is a soft track set up or firm road 250lb at the wheel

well 2nd hand ex 944 atmo seems your looking for one ??
best thing i saw was a "GT" brand torsion one for around 950 US .
I also saw an ebay trader with diffs for almost everything for like 600.
I think there is also one on one of local club pages recently.

No, I'm happy with mine that's out of your home town, but I wasn't sure what one you were talking about in this thread is all?

I speak gibberish... He's saying he picked up his transaxle after having an LSD fitted, and was concerned that the tech did an improper job because the tech thought it was for a FWD car. [This does not strike me as crazy as the trans looks like a FWD transaxle and has a bellhousing, etc.]
To check the breakaway torque prevent one axle from turning and measure the torque it takes to turn the other one. Put the wrench on a bolt that is at 3:00 or 9:00 to get a better reading so the wrench to the bolt to the center of the flange or hub makes an 'L' to get a better reading.

I'd be interested in this number too. Have yet to see a post on this. Didn't see it in a quick search of the porsche transmission manual either but I very well could have missed it.

I dunno what the torque might be on a new clutch type LSD. It might be a bit weird until the plates have spun a bit in gear oil with friction modifiers, unless they are pre-oiled or something. They might be pretty grabby at first. Anyone know?
At any rate the torque depends on the unit, preload, etc. Probably 30-100 ft/lbs depending. He could shim it to be super tight (and wear faster) or a more stockish setting, and like I said I have no idea if they need to burnish in or not... I would expect they do.
On a used stock-type 944 LSD I'd expect to see something like 20-40 ft/lbs.

That's because it IS a FWD transaxle. It was used in an Audi and Porsche "borrowed" it for the 944. He probably thought dude was crazy telling him it did not go into a FWD car!!

Why would it make a difference to the guy servicing it anyway?

because a almost locked diff in a front wheel drive car is a nightmare also there is just less lock required to make them effective as they don't peg leg as much
