Cup Car Mirrors, who has ordered them??
I just have a quick question for anybody who has ordered the black cup car mirrors. If I order them from Porsche using the part numbers below will I get the proper mirror ready to bolt on? I ask because from the info I found it seems that the mirrors themselves are VW parts but the bases are different to work on the 944 door. I just wanted to make sure if I order from Porsche is it already assembled how its supposed to be with the proper base ready for installation?
Here are the part numbers I believe 944CS posted up on another thread along with the picture from Oddjob.
477.857.521 D - Left side
477.857.522 D - Right Side
477.857.579 - Gasket, x2
999.067.026.07 - pan head screw, x2

If you order the mirrors from porsche using the correct M637 part numbers (I didnt double check your numbers, but offhand the mirror numbers are right, I cant remember the gasket #), you will get the 924/944 Club Sport mirrors, not the VW parts. They are a direct bolt on.
The gaskets are different than the stock mirror gaskets, but the bolt is the same - so you can reuse those if you want.
xxx.522H is the convex p-side mirror, 522D is a standard mirror. I used the convex mirror.

It comes down to personal preference/use.
The mirrors are a little smaller than the stock ones, so view is a little more limited. Mine is a race car, so I need all sorts of rear/side vision, which is why I opted for the convex one.
I recall they listed for about $150 ea. I bought mine several years ago with the PCA $100 coupon, so I dont have huge money in my set.

Got my Cup mirrors from Hennessy Porsche in Atlanta. Good telephone mail order guy, Kenn Young. Total bolt on, all parts in the kit. Didn't get convex. Doesn't matter much on our EP hillclimb/time trial car...fiberglass doors vibrate so much everthing in the mirror is just a jumpy blur

"In the day" they were used in unpainted black. They're molded in a shallow matte wrinkle finish, but enterprising owners could most likely sand them smooth enough to accept paint.
BTW, they're not dirt cheap, I think I paid something like $180 each for mine, but they save all sorts of time in fabrication compared to formula style mirrors or the trick 935 style A piller mirrors. They weigh nothing and it's kinda cool to use a factory Club Sport part.
Kenn Young at Hennessy cracked up on the phone. Once we worked through the fact that these parts were part of the factory racing program and he had them in inventory, I took a deep breath and he jumped in and said "No don't bother asking..." because he knew were I was going.
No dusty shelves in the Porsche NA Atlanta warehouse filled with rumored alumimum torque tubes, no trick trannies, etc. These mirrors are among the few parts remaining from the Turbo Cup program still in the factory's inventory
