Default Car shut off while driving

I had just gotten home from the movie theater, showered and left to the UFC fight and then not even 2 miles from my house and the car cuts out then dies upon accelerating in second gear. I pulled over, checked timing belt and it was not broken, smelled funny, my tech is going to come in the morning to troubleshoot it, he thinks it's the alarm by pass he did behind the ECU, what else can it be?

I had a similar problem and turned out to be the DME relay

Well, car is back home, what happened is the heat shield for the brake master cylinder pierced a hole in the harness that goes by the turbo cooler and it created a short, I put electric tape all around the wires and reconnected them, put heat shield a little farther out and a rubber cover on top of the harness, no harm no foul, car is back to normal.

yeah, i saw the post, 2 miles from home, "checked and the belt hadn't broken".

a simple question and just wondered if you run without covers, took the covers off or had xray vision.

JUst look through the inspection port on the cam gear housing. If the cam gear is moving when the engine is cranked, then the timing belt is still on and intact. Its another story of the timing belt skipped a few teeth, but thats not all that common.

I was on the side of the road with a dead DME relay myself today. Darn the twenty year old electronics! Popped a new relay in and all was well again.

Regards,

It's running the same, like I said, it was a short, nothing a little electric tape couldn't fix...
