Default HOW DO I: Increase resale on my '87 944 Turbo

Hey friends.

In the art of tuning, what can i put on my car to increase resale & what is my car currently worth.

(Lart if you say $4500 i'm going to fly across the country and beat you like a yankee)

My car: (hypothetical, concidering i and swapping motors & will have dyno sheets)

400whp
vittesse MAF / chips / SMT-6
Turbo: Innovative TO4E w. Garret stage III wheel / #8 hotside
Ported polished head / intake w/ valve & head work
72lb injectors w/ resistors w/ adj fuel pressure regulator & fire sleeves on fuel lines
Tial 46mm WG
Magnecore wires
3" test pipe (no cat) 3.5 cat back w. spintech muffler
Custom intake manifold
Larger BMW 535 Throttle Body

Koni race suspension set up by Huntley Racing 500lb frt 600lb back w/ torsion delete.

Corbeau race buckets w/ 5 pt harnesses
autopower roll bar
Sparco wheel
zietronix Wideband w/ display

WHAT I WANT NEXT:
Larger Intercooler
LSD
Headers
Standalone EMS
Lightened crank / rods

So what is my car worth running w/o any leaks and proven 12.5 quarter miles & 400 whp ?

If you are wondering i am not sellign now, but i need to soon as my next car (1954 jaguar xk120) is on its way & i need space & could use the money.

NO, i am not giving up on the 944 turbo, it is my favorite car ever, i drove it here to write this thread & i was on boost the whole way here. I just have to make a choice between a family car & my 944 (i can only afford one right now)

thanks,

jake

Whats the mileage ? Ever been wrecked ? Flooded ? etc.... Original Paint ?
This all comes into play . An original low mileage 951 brings more money than any amount of mods you spend on your car ......... That is a fact............... if your car had 80k original miles and no mods :
between 7000.00 - 9000.00 Above 100k dops the price 3500.00 - 7500.00 Again this depends on how clean , maintenance records and buy the wants the car , not needing the car. Then again above 200k miles car is worth parts 1500.00 -4000.00 max

Every $1 you invest in a 951 increases it's value by about $.25.

its not worth further modifying it to make more money cause you wont, as long as its all in good working order leave it be if your planning to sell it or you may actually lose money. The only time its worth modifying a car is if your planning on keeping it.

Any pics. My dad had a 57 XK140 Coupe. I wish I had that car today.

Well, my car is appraised at $60,000 right now. Take this for what it's worth. First from what I read on your list of mods, the outside looks pretty nice and support a street car. The interior sounds like more of a race car. Your engine mods could go either way. You should first figure out which way you want to go with your car. If you try to sell it as a stree/track car, you are going to lose out. It's either one or the other. If it's a track car, you don't have to worry too much about the outside condition or interior condition. The mods will make the car. If you go street, it's gotta be show quality. When I say show, you have to be able to go to a car show with over 150 million dollars in automobiles for auction like at the big auctions in Scottsdale every Jan. and be in the top three best paint in the whole show like I was. Not a scuff in your clear coat. Your mods have to outdo most every production car out there giving it the best bang for the buck. If a guy's looking to buy a little Z06, Viper, or Twin Turbo Porsche, you have to give him a reason to want your car instead, to pay what you want for it, and at the same time make him feel he's getting a deal. The fact that for less than the price of a Z06, you can give all three cars a head start and by third gear all they see is your ***, is the deal they want. You have to have a Perfect interior. Mods to support a super car status which takes careful planning as there are so many choices out there without going too racer for the average supercar buyer. Those guys have enough money to buy a street car and a race car. Choose your mods, performance and cosmetically, to upgrade your car while sticking as close to Porsche as possible. Like GT2 seats, a 200 mph speedo, audio-nav upgrade, even an updated steering wheel. Remember, you have to sell a 20 year old car over a new car. You have to make it like new. After you get there, take it to the big auctions, hold your breath that the stock market is doing well right before the auctions begin and sell your *** off before it hits the block. I got a high bid my first year of $46,000 and declined. Next year the stock market took a dump a day before the auction and got a high bid of $26,000. That's my .02 and experience. Good luck.

if you want to maximize the amount of $$ you get, take everything back to stock and sell off the performance parts separately. if you sell it as is, my guess is that you'll get less than 15k. i keep looking at this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...144940119&rd=1

and kind of wish i would have bought it

far less than $15k, i'd guess.

12.5 sec/1/4m, to me, means it's been run hard a lot. you don't mention basic stuff, belts/wp/seals rollers, clutch, interior(other than seats) paint, just the trick stuff and you want to recover every cent+, that you've put into it.

i'd personally never buy a modded car and enjoy my near perfect, close to stock/k276, ride.

I'm sure you have heard this many times but modifying cars is done for passion, 99.9% of the time you will never see reward for those efforts and 75% of the time it will actually DEvalue your car compared to a clean stock one.

Your only hope is to find that perfect person that wants YOUR car, the way it is and is willing to pay a (small) premium over a nice stock example for it. I agree with the poster above, your mods would scare me away before interesting me (and I'm interested in a 951). I say strip off the big items and put it back closer to stock, you can probably sell them for 50-75% of what you purchased them for, then hope to get $7-$9k out of the car if as a whole it is a solid, documented, maintained example.

Please don't get me wrong, your car is VERY impressive as a forum addition, it's just that selling it is an entirely different story. Think about it, most enthusiasts (like myself) want a solid base to build an incredible toy just like yours with their own details.

I say keep it (you will regret selling it later) and figure out how to do the XK.

(sorry for the long winded post)

what can i put on my car to increase resale?

pretty much mothing.

stock or lightly modified (like chip and test pipe) will sell the best.

YOU MOD IT BECAUSE IT MAKES YOU HAPPY, NOT AS A RESALE INVESTMENT.
