You're going to have some good blow-by, lower compression, and high leak down on that cylinder. It'll run for a while, but something bad will happen again. I'd pull it out and choose one of these options...

-different stock engine (Lart's!)
-bore and hone for 101 or 101.5mm pistons/rings
-sleeve it (steel or aluminum)
-bore, coat with Nikasil, hone for stock pistons/rings
-LSx conversion

I've gone with the first and fourth options in the past. The last one is next if I ever destroy another engine.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I'm going to clean her up & bolt her back together for now.

I found a used block & will clean it up while i run this one.

Then this winter i'll switch them.

Yeah, Jakery. I would probably do the same. Just put her back together and start getting the other block ready. That gouge is a non-survivable wound.

When you guys say "blow by" do you mean oil into the compustion chamber or combustion gasses into the crank case.

I guess this would explain why my oil has a gas smell to it.

Pretty much plan on an 80% leakdown on that cylinder or more. It will idle deceivingly well. But, will just push a ridiculous amount of oil out any orifice that "sees" the oil pan. Blow-by will be enormous. Your motor is now a 3 cylinder. But.. If it's your ony source of transportation, it might just act fine under little to no boost. I wouldn't go past that though. I'm sorry about that. I hate to see anyone have to deal with these issues. If you can.. replace it now.

95ONE, I'm going to run a 12.5 1/4 mile with this engine @ 25 psi.

As soon as my new head gasket gets here.

Like i said before, i've arranged a new motor already.

But i'm gonna happily push this one to the limit for now

You mean Alusil (I just looked it up)

I just got off the phone with Eyal.

Eyal is here, he is watching us, preparing to jump back into porsche ring and sell his civic.

He just doesn't know it yet.

Well if you have plans to run crazy boost levels or anything like that, there is pretty much no harm in using this engine to find the limits. Nothing to lose
Even 101mm probably won't save that block, that gouge is seriously deep.

When we are talking about the issues your engine will have, we mean both combustion gasses in the oil, and oil in the combustion chamber. See how the piston crown is really clean and dark brown? That is from all the oil which has entered the cylinder at that point.
Also, your oil smelling like gas, this is probably why. If your oil pan gasket/rear main seal leaked like crazy, this is probably why.

good call on the leaking oil pan / real seal.

All of the cylinders have that dark brown coating around the lip.

But this engine does have 123k miles and my T04E does blow off a bit of oil.

Thanks Zero.

I agree 101 will not do it this engine is a good canidate for a sleeve setup.

Back up and running !

I still have some 100 octane in the tank so i turned the boost right up to 18psi to test out the new Cometic Head gasket.

Worked great !

But the blow by is really an issue.

When i stopped half way to work and checked under the hood the dip stick was pushed up out of the tube & then 3 miles later when i got to work it had pushed up again.

THATS A LOT OF BLOW BY.

Looking forward to dropping in the new motor this winter.

PS you guys were right.
