Default 951 Switchable Exhaust

Hi All,

Check this out...

I have uploaded a short video so you can hear the 951 electronic switchable exhaust I have been testing. The initial run is with the 'quiet' setting. After the first roundabout, it is then switched to 'loud'

The video link is: www.promaxmotorsport.com/video/exhaust.wmv (requires Windows Media Player). File will stream to your player and is about 65mb in size. Suggest you right click on URL and select 'save target as' and then download the complete file (takes between 2 and 8 mins depending on DSL speed).

low res version here: www.promaxmotorsport.com/video/exhaust_low.wmv (7mb).

The system is switched via a rocker switch on the centre console and delivers a dyno proven +11bhp and +12lbft in either quiet or loud modes! It sounds awesome!

Regards,
Andrew

Hi John,

It's almost ready. Just doing final testing - should have the first production run in September! :-)

Just trying to clarify...

Is there a difference in power between the loud and quiet modes?

I ask becuase the sport exhaust on the Boxster is has two modes like this and all Porsche guarantees besides sounding better is that the sport exhaust does not lose power.

Hi,

The system delivers a dyno proven +12lbft peak torque and +11bhp peak power - take a look at the link above to the power charts (both tests carried out same day, same car and same dyno).

When you switch to quiet mode you still get the same power gains, i.e. +11bhp and +12lbft.

The exhuast is straight through in both quiet and loud modes - so, both offer unrestricted passage for exhaust gas. This is a very advanced exhaust design allowing you to get maximum power without having to make a lot of noise. If you want the full soundtrack - it's there at the touch of a switch when you want it.

Regards,
Andrew

That is a great idea. The new corvette has something similar I think.

Hi,

Coincidently - wortec do a system for both C5 and C6 'Vettes and the Vauxhall Monaro (Pontiac GTO) and VXR8.

Once the 951 solution is released (Sep 2007), we will then start looking at other Porsche models (968, 944S2, 964 and 993 and possibly 986 Boxster and 996). All the systems are wortec performance products and are made in the UK (wortec systems for Porsche are developed in conjunction with ProMAX Motorsport). More details on the wortec website: www.wortec.co.uk

Another benefit of this system is it does not suffer from 'drone' on Motorways / Freeways. What I mean is the instrusive noise that you can sometimes hear on some after market exhausts when cruising at say 70mph (113km/h). There are no unpleasant resonant sounds on either the loud or quiet settings.

More pictures and videos soon! :-)

Regards,
Andrew

This is something the VW crowd has been doing here in the US. They use it at the dragstrip. Good luck its a neat concept.

I was actualy thinking about this thread the other day wondering what happened to it. Seems like a great product, like most of the ProMax stuff. I think the price will put it out of the market though.

a link to the video clip.... http://www.wortec.co.uk/video/944.wmv

The R32 has a flapper valve that opens via a solenoid at a certain RPM. When the valve is closed, exhaust travels through the muffler. When the valve opens, the exhaust is routed around the muffler & through the muffler tip. You can see the valve on the left side of the picture.
