The trigger is the tab which is welded to the back of the alternator pulley. There is another 180 degrees opposed. The sensor is the black nose you can see and it's attached by an M10 bolt with the head cut off and turned down then cut with an M8 thread that you can also see. It's rock solid.

The cover is now on and you can't tell it isn't stock. I'll grab a pic of the cam sensor if I'm there when the dizzy cover comes off, otherwise I can get one of the back of the sensor for sure as you can see that.

Woo hoo! Check out what I found in my trunk last night...

...Innovate Turbo Systems 42mm Pro-Gate wastegate! Costs $475 new. Rock on!

I'll have more pictures and details from the engine teardown later, I'm typing this note from a kiosk at a hospital. (dad just got a couple of "sleeved" arteries, he's doing great now)

I have the engine block completely stripped on the outside (except for some studs). I'm about to head down to take out the 3 remaining pistons/rods, then the crank and girdle. Then bare block gets shipped up to NY via greyhound bus to be sleeved.

Couple hundred megs of pictures once I get home.

Long time since I posted here. I'm gearing up for some major work the last two weeks of this month.

I think I'm going to start a single thread and just post little blurbs with a link in the few places I have this listed across a few different boards and forums. I might press a familiy member into "secretary" service over Christmas vacation, to keep track of everything. This is going to be fun. Hopefully I don't ruin myself financially! Althought I've already paid most of the big bills, just the clutch kit and remaining balance to Chris are left.

Haha, I took a few hundred megs of pictures and never posted any...

And here's a gallery specifically for the rebuild:

First, today is my birthday, and guess what just arrived at the shipping dock. Thats right, 2700cc's of birthday cake! I sure know how to buy myself nice presents!

Also, its ironic Vitesse just announced his knock box and wasted spark systems. I got my "knock box" in the mail yesterday. $63 shipped new-in-box from someone that didn't need it...

http://www.viatrack.ca/

http://www.viatrack.ca/KnockMS/WiringMS.PDF

It was developed specifically on the Bosch knock sensor on our cars, although its adjustable to be used with a variety of sensors/engines.

Also got the Honda COP setup a week or two ago, which I'll probably run in wasted spark mode at least to begin with. I might end up running convential DIS coils with short plug wires too, thats still up in the air.

I head home tomorrow to start the wrech turning portion of the project. Goal is to have all of the mechanicals in place by Jan 1. Then I'll have the EMS to build/install, plus about 1000000000 other things to go back over.

Pictures of the new fancy motor will be up in a few days.

I ordered my KnockSenseMS yesterday Ill use that for a while, then probably upgrade to a J&S Safeguard down the road, for some individual cylinder knock control goodness.

That viatrack device seems pretty cool and easy to integrate.

Please take some pics of the engine block and pistons. Good luck with the wrenching.

Wow, this thread is dusty. Well 80% of my 951 was delivered to my new place in Cali today. Theoretically, I could have the shortblock assembled into the longblock and be ready to "go to its home" around Christmas time. I just have to empty out one of the garage bays first. And oh yeah, figure out a way to get the engineless carcass 3k miles west for cheap.

Also, due to my new employment, it would be silly for anything other than a Garrett GT to find its place under the hood. Likely a GT3076R.

About time for an update on the past year:

Sept->Dec - laziness/shopping for the M3/944 repairs

Jan->June - LeMons car debacle (read about it in the next issue of GRM), popped the M3 coolant bottle at the track

July - much needed repair work on the 325

Aug - ditto for the 944 and M3

Sept->Oct - another lemons car!?! possibly

Nov->Dec - maybe have time to pull the 951 stuff out again

Since all my image links are broken in the old posts, here's the link to the gallery:
