Also as stated above, the alternator bracket is massively thick. Grinding or cutting away some material is not going to hurt anything.

I just sold my engine which I will be removing in the next couple weeks and will take some pics of my modified bracket. Until now I have yet to remove the alternator since I did this, not even for turbo swaps.

That is their alternator relocation & AC delete bracket, it's not the same as the Quest alternator bracket that retains AC.

Well, hard to find on what is honestly a horrible website. If I knew this I would have most likely gone that route, espeicially if it is designed for the same Quest alternator. I don't think he has the time to mess with our low volume small profit modifications. However, I am very happy with the results using the methods described here and saved some money to boot.

^^^ agreed, the website is completely useless. I searched for some pics on the net and couldn't come up with much either. My brother's car has the bracket installed, and I recently helped him with a full tear-down and re-seal, and I have some photos, but nothing that shows the bracket well. My only complaint is that it eliminated the engine hoist tab that attaches at one of the factory bracket bolts.

And to update on the other discussion regarding the CEP bracket.... I lucked out, he found one in his shop he still had (was saving it for his personal car). He's local-ish to me (a little over an hour south) so I'm going to meet up with him Sunday morning and pick it up.

Edit - update: met Dave from CEP on Sunday. Super nice, super intelligent guy. Spent over an hour chatting with him, and probably could have spent another hour or two easy (but the wife said she wanted to tag along, and then waited in the car. I knew I was gonna be in trouble as soon as Dave and I started talking...) I also picked up the bracket - very slick and beautiful to look at (though I think anything that's CNC'd out of aluminum is...) It's also set up such that it can accept a stock alternator with a simple flip of part of the bracket should I ever need to put a stock Bosch unit back in.

However - he also politely asked that I refrain from posting detailed photos of the bracket. Apparently he's had some problems as of late with his parts getting copied. Since he asked, I'm going to honor that request. I'll say that it looks very similar to the photo somebody posted here of his A/C delete bracket, though the alternator sits higher such that the A/C compressor can be mounted below.

This is a very helpful picture. Thanks s14kev! Copied this, used a small 4" grinder with a cutting wheel. Worked great and only took about 30 min.

Anyone give me some input on holding the Nissan shaft to remove the pulley nut? Best method? I do not have an impact wrench.

Shawn:

Nice job looks great! You need to go to local shop then and have them pop the nut for you with impact wrench. Easier than breaking something. If you ordered the one from my link it would have come with the correct pulley for free, but too late for that.

I too have made it through 15 years of wrenching without air tools. Means being creative for some situations.

I've rebuilt many alternators when I was too cheap to purchase a reconditioned unit. Best to use the belt to hold the pulley still ie.

1. Install the alternator and place the 5 rib belt on the 6 rib pulley.
2. Tension the 5 rib belt to hold the pulley stationary
3. Undo the alternator pulley nut and remove the 6 rib pulley

Repeat this process to install the new pulley

I just ordered me one of these alternators from URG8RB8's link and asked about the 6 rib pulley (no mention of what car it was for). He said he'd be happy to put the correct pulley on *for my Porsche*. He also mentioned having done this for quite a few folks.

Shawn - any chance of you updating this write-up (or one of your own) with a few more details/pics?

Shawn:
Yes, correct link, just mention Eric's 944 Porsche mod. Thought I posted that somewhere, but been a long time ago. I told him there were a lot of us who would want this mod and he told me no problem he would source and install the pulleys for us! Very nice guy and fast shipping. Great price too for the upgraded high output unit with better bearings. I needed for my laser beam head and driving lights, plus big stereo. I have something else you need, will send you a PM.

Glad to see he is still doing this!
