Default 2nd 951 engine bad - I'm so freaking blessed

Well after 3 weeks I was finally able to break down the 2nd engine hat came from the project car. It had a spun #2 RB when I bought it. The #3 bore is heavily scored full length over 120 deg. I was hoping that it might be better than the spare 951 block with pretty serious ridging but otherwise clean bores. I need to make a decision here soon or just sell the project car as is with a motor needing machine work.

So what are my options and projected costs here?

1. Go with a clean-up bore and hone on the first motor and hope that I can use standard pistons;

2. Overbore since I have to have machining anyway and go for a 2.7L if I need pistons anyway;

3. Say screw it, sell the nicer bodied silver car with and engine needing work and put my many upgrades on the black car that has always run well;

4. Leave the country after torching anything with a Porsche emblem parked at my house.

If someone like Ski has any ideas and input it would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the lament but it hasn't been a 'fun' project like I had hoped.

Sorry to hear steve, I'd go with option 2 or 3. 2 is obviously the more costly one but it could lead to a incredible car but then again the black car is already very nice.

I think poster #2 should have one. If not maybe boost feen or matt sheppard and they're closer and have lots of parts.

Actually the first block is by far the best now with nothing more than ridging at the top. They are all clean, within spec, and evenly worn. I'm just not sure about just rebuilding it without machining after hearing some comments about cracking the top ring even after break-in.
Further update: It get's even better. Not only is the crank in need of a serious turn(expected), the #2 rod is bent(unexpected). It never cracked but it looks like a drunk sailor and the cap was a bitch to get off. It's time to have a cold one and clean up the carnage. I'll post some pics later...at least it's not as bad as some of the true carnage pics I've seen here.

Steve, sorry to hear of the trouble. I have a set, which I was about to ebay, of group #1 stock pistons, new rings and rods that have been shot peened, with ARP hardware. These are 100mm instead of 99.980 so they would get you into the first engine if you can find someone to do the block work. If you interested, I'll let you have them for less than I was going to start the auction, they're actually boxed up in the garage.

From the 2 engines I have enough for a rebuild and will probably send the block out. The 2nd head looks like it's had newer work. I still can't see what damaged #3 though. The piston is like the rest and all the rings are free. The oil ring area seems to be where most the worst damage is. Anyway I'll PM you later, gotta eat. Here's a pic or 2.

My Steve, that is a lot of metal in the pan. It looks like you will need to pull all the oil plugs and completely clean out the oil galley. Is the oil pump in good condition?

a nice mod if pulling the galley plugs is to drill, tap, and get a threaded plugs for all three holes.

That's pretty nasty in the pan.

Dam Steve sorry to hear your troubles. I dont think I have your patience. I did a little work on the NA today and put everything back together and then started her up to take a test drive............but of course as I'm walking toward the car I see a large puddle forming in the back of the car.........sure enough its fuel and I spend the next 30 minutes under the car again removing the worn fuel line and wondering if I'm going to die a fiery death in one of the p-cars one day.

Not to take away from your troubles......just wanted to let you know there are others who feel your pain.

Btw, I have a full engine with a mls gasket on it, you can come and test drive the car if you like the engine it's is yours for $ 1500.00. Engine has been dyno at 350 @ the wheels
