Default Daddy needs some new shoes...

What would you recommend?

I currently have Toyo Proxes RA/1 on there now. great tires and LOVE EM! however, they've been discontinued, and have become cost-prohibitive...

so, I'm looking for something with close to the same grip, preferably a longer durability, and a cheaper price than $175.00 each...

I must say I love the toyo products! I liked my yokos too but they were too dirty. I'd say go for a new set of proxes anyway.

What?

RA1's have not been formally discontinued. They are being phased out for a similar tire (R888 IIRC) but the RA1 should be available through next year even.Contracts are still in place specifying RA-1 as spec in several series, so they cannot be just dropped overnight. Perhaps some size might fade away quicker I guess.

I literally ordered a set of 4 at $130/ea for the NA on Thursday, they shipped same day will be here Monday. For extended info see the NASA spec 944 forums.

Hey Geoff, I just put a set of Kumho Ecsta ASX's on the 951, I got them at Discount and the whole shootin' match was only $520 installed and out the door. They are not the "ultra summer performance" tire that Kumho offers, those were not in stock and had to be ordered, but are more like an all season performance tire. Since your car is dailey driven this might be a reasonable option for you. Discount will also match internet pricing from Tire Rack. Check it out.

Well, Rodney, my biggest concern is winter driving... in the winter, it WILL suck because I'm gonna be rocking the 924S as the daily, with it's snows... and that car is already uncomfortable to drive as a daily because of the seats and harnesses... I might just toss the stock seat back in...

so I don't necessarily care about the need for winter driving in the turbo... summer tires will do just fine, and when the 924S breaks, if there is snow on the ground, I'll rent a car... cuz I get those for cheap. (BTW, how was your trip?)

sooooooo... I need to look for cheap Toyos. you say the NASA forum has some info on where they can be found?

What size are you looking for? I just ordered some RA1's last week, no problem with availability. Check out www.edgeracing.com if you want RA1's, and see if they have your size. Their pricing is pretty competitive too.

Edge has em, but it'll be $700.00 for a set!!!!!

I'm looking for:

Front: 225/50-16
Rear: 245/45-16

The rears can be put off, they do still have plenty o tread left on em... but the fronts are toast... PO had a bad alignment and killed the fronts before the rears.... basically the eccentric bolt on the shock that controls camber was loose, and it was wobbling... killed those tires QUICKLY. it's all fixed now, but he had to replace the fronts before the rears, and now the fronts are worn again, and the rears are about 50%...
