Default Brake Cooling

I've cross-posted this here on the 944 Tubo board because there's always more traffic than on the 968 board...so I appologize in advance!

For those who have replaced their foglights with brake cooling ducts...

Did you also remove the 968 air scoops that attach to the A-arms? Or, did you keep them intact? Do the bottom mounted air scoops interfere with the flow of air from the foglight mounted air ducts?

I ask because I removed my 968 air scoops when I had brake cooling ducts installed, and I recently found that I have to replace my rotors. They are Zimmerman drilled; and the cracks are now connecting the dots, and extending out to the edge of the rotor. The rotors have 9 DE events on them...3-days at VIR, 2-days at Pocono and 4-days at Watkins Glen.

I'm wondering if this is partly due to removing the bottom air scoops and relying only on the new foglight brake cooling ducts...Or, is this just normal wear and tear?

I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure my rotors lasted me almost the entire season last year; and now they definately don't.

Thanks,

I have the AIR ducts in place of the foglights on my 951. I removed the regular 944 scoop from the struts (no 968 A-arm scoops) and run just the 3" hose to Broadfoot backing plates at the rotor.

I could be wrong, but only 9 events on cross drilled rotors before cracking seems a little fast. I run regular vented (solid) rotors and have about 12 events on mine. 3 of those with the brake ducts, the rest with the stock setup.

speaking of which, has anyone seen/used paragon's brake ducting kits?

they replace the stock 951 ducts, I believe, and leave the foglights intact. much improvement?

just a note here; there is enough room to mount some (maybe not those) air gathering ducts on the side of the factory cooler and the opposite side AND keep your fog lights. We used some 6 x 4 ducts on the track car and hosed that to the rotors using the broadfoot plates as well - this beside twin factory coolers.
