Just gotta show off my new track wheels
Just picked these up ready for my trackday tomorrow. They are already fitted with Kumho Ecsta V700 soft compound track tyres, 235's up front and 275 behind . I've had a quick test on the road and even without them being fully warm, I can no longer spin the wheels in 3rd and 4th. I'm very happy with that
I was worried that the black would not go but I think it looks okay. The main thing is it will help to hide the dust from the PF97 brake pads

Perhaps it's the color, but those look large. As I understand it, the best track wheel size for these cars are usually 16". Larger rims put too much pressure on the control arms and ball joints for track use. Either way, you should upgrade to 968 caster blocks, if you haven't already.
Amazing what you've done with this car, btw.

They look very large because of the colour I think, but they are 17" and yes I already have the 968 caster blocks. My previous 16" track rims were fine but it is getting harder and harder to find good 16" track tyres over here. I really do need a wider rear tyre because of my power and the 245's I had before were struggling to cope. I hope these will fit the bill

Nice pickup Paul. You definitely needed more rubber out back as they say. They look a bit different. Very proud, but the black adds a bit of track/q-car to Lil and the more traction the better. You should notice a marked difference. Are they an 'R' spec tyre?

Yes they are an R spec tyre and they are in a soft compound so it will be interesting to compare with my old slicks that were a Hard compound. The rims are 9" ET55 all round and the fronts do look a bit wide to me but I have checked all the clearances as best I can on the ramp and with some hard cornering on the road and they seem fine. If necessary I have a some 8.5" ET50 from my wifes S2 or my normal road rims that I can swap to the front for 12mm extra clearance inside and 1mm by the arch (of course I'll have to paint them black if I do this)

Beautiful car. Be sure to take some video of that mean engine of yours on the track.
Question: why do you want to upgrade to the 968 caster blocks? Should I do this if I want to autox it (as well as some track days)?

The Porsche Technical Bulletin #9303, September 28, 1993, which deals with the fitting of 17" wheels and tyres to 4-cyl models from 1987 onward, 944, 944S, 944T (all with M30 option), Turbo S 1988, Turbo 1989, and S2 from 1989.
Fitting of 17" wheels on vehicles previously equipped with 16" wheels is allowed, however you should also replace the caster adjustment parts so that the alignment can be adjusted for the proper caster angle of 3 deg 15-45'. The parts needed are:
Rear Mount 951 341 023 00
When you look at the old and the new side by side you can see there is a lot less rubber in the 968 mount

Thanks for the info.
So if I'm running w/ stock phones for right now I shouldn't worry about it?

No worries with Phonies, but the 968 M030 caster blocks provide improved control arm performance over earlier mounts regardless of wheel fitment. I've installed them on both an NA with 15" Fuchs and a Turbo S wth 16" Club Sports and experienced more predictable turn in and stability under heavy braking on both cars.
Suspect they limit front-rear/up-down control arm deflection significantly compared to standard block...very viable and realtively cheap rubber based arm option for high performance driving short of going the "full Monte" to poly-bronze or spherical bearings and/or aftermarket arms.
