At WOT it hits 1500 RPM then idle, 1500 RPM then idle...
I got stuck in a parking lot with this problem. I could barely give it gas and creep up to 1500 RPM before it would start dropping off, or I could floor it and have it bounce from idle to 1500 RPM over and over again.
While to tow truck was on it's way I decided to hook up the handheld unit for the GURU MAP setup and noticed that when I switched from MAP to TPS that the car would stumble and practically die until I switched it back to MAP again. I ended up taking a wrench and tapping the TPS and suddenly it was revving like normal again except for a bit of backfiring as it was coming back down. I had the car towed anyway so the TPS didn't decide to fail on my on the drive home.
Ok, so the TPS is taken apart and terminals 2 and 3 seem to ohm out fine, but 4 and 6 are stuck open. There's no reading and no continuity regardless of the position of the TPS; soldering looks fine from what I can tell and there's no oil inside.
So! Do I replace it?

Hmmm.. Doc, it hurts when I raise my arm. Well, then don't raise your arm.
TPS is a fairly common failure...I say replace it. If that is not your problem...keep the replacement for when your current one does fail.

Not that it's of any consequence, but I figured out the problem with the TPS. The internal switch is busted from the inside and is no longer able to "click". It's no wonder that tapping it seemed to have fixed it at the time while I was waiting for the tow truck.
Thanks for the help guys.
