Default 951 vs 951 S

I am thinking that a 951 would fit my "needs" well. A fun car that I can at power at will. My question is when considering purchase of a car that you plan to mod how much of a difference is it between the S and non-S cars.

Would I be that far ahead if I bought a S car?

Thanks

If you get serious about modding, you'll probably replace everything that made it an S.

That is what I was thinking. Why pay the extra $$$ for parts that I am going to upgrade anyway.

waste of money if you are modding. In many cases you can spend the difference in mods and outperform any stock S.

definately cool, and would buy if in same price range for sure. Typically the S cars are not priced the same.

I believe S differences include - m030 suspension -koni adjustables,sway bars,larger calipers, etc.

When I bought (2002) there was a bigger price difference between them than there is now. I bought an 87 because I knew I would be changing everything that made the "S" different so it did not make sense to pay more. That said and with the price decrease the past 5 years, I would not care about an "S" or not. My goal would be for the nicest car I could find with-in my budget. If you are not going to do all the work yourself, your are better to buy one already modified and sorted out. Finding a good honest mechanic to do the work is not cheap and not always local to you. Buying the best car you can afford will give you the imeadiate pleasure of driving it right now and deciding what mods are improtant to you. I would also suggest rideing in some that have the mods you are thinking about (if possible). One persons idea of the perfect stiffness in ride may be uncomfortable to you. I went with my very knowledgable friends suggestion and while it is very good on the track it's almost too stiff for my likes on many roads. I should have tried theirs on the road and not just the track.
Bottom line is get a good car and you will care if it is an "S" or not, you'll be having to much fun driving.

very good advice. I must admit I cringe when I look at what I have spent and what car can be bought with that much money. Needless to say I am in far deeper than could ever sell for - as many are

Two nice things about buying an S off the bat are the addition of larger brakes in the front and the LSD equipped transmission. The M030 suspension is kind of a moot point because if its all original its very likely around 100k miles and 20 years old. Still you could probably sell it for a few hundred bucks to the interested parties on eBay. With that said, the same can be said about the LSD. Its probably worn with 100k miles on it.

With that being said, if you are buying the Turbo S to modify.. i would open my search to include all the 951 years if you can live with either offset.
