Default 944 vs 951 opinions please

I am interested in a 944 or 951 for track use only. Should I be getting a 944NA or Turbo? Why? Witch would have better endurance? Why?

I'm sure my questions will result in more questions but I need to start somewhere.

Thanks

Given that you've already got a 993, go for the turbo. I think w/ an n/a you'll be disappointed soon into owning one.

The 951 is more costly to maintain, but you've already got a 993 so you're used to that by now

If you were thinking of going N/A I would consider a 968. Check out this video - even though it says it's a 968 Turbo it's not. He hasn't done the conversion yet. The car he is chasing is a 951 that a friend of mine just bought. The N/A has a lot of appeal from the reliability and ease of driving around a track standpoint.

The website for his car is http://www.968turbo.com/

He has some other good videos.

A 944 N/A is great to start out with any way though. ausgeflippt is right, you may be disappointed. I dunno, but I dont think I could really drive my 951 well or appreciate it as much if I had not owned a N/A prior. It may sound crazy to many of you, but I think there are a lot of basics one must learn about drivingthe 944 itself before moving on to a 951. If you get an N/A you will soon want more and more power. I dont think you would be disappointed with either choice. I say learn with an N/A first, sell it then get a 951. Just my opinion.

Also depends on lots of other things. Racing or just DE/trackdays? What kind of budget do you have? How much track experience do you have? These will give us a better idea of where to start. 944 Spec is one of the most affordable ways to get into racing. Very competitive because of the limits on the car upgrades, it makes it more about the drivers. As you go beyond that, the sky's the limit. As they say, speed is money, how fast do you want to go?

If you have not done much racing before, and depending on your budget, I would go for the NA to be honest. Its cheap, cheap to fix and you can live with writing it off more easily than the Turbo. I say, first season look for an NA already caged and with seat and harness etc, and then if you actually like racing the 944, in a season or two, flick it off and look for a Turbo. Oh even Chicken Class has its rules, make sure your displacement fits the kind of racing you want to do, seriously. Other rules may be around number of valves not just displacement. The last thing you want is to be in a class and be at the bottom of the band if you want to be competitive.

NA's can run in 944spec... turbos can not.

Yes true true...I was actually just involved in a slight fender bender and I need a new nose panel...jesus god it is expensive. Ah well this gives me the opportunity to upgrade w/ an AIR vented nose

Also, the 951 engine is much more daunting to the unprepared. a 944 is simple to work on and there is relatively nothing in the engine bay. It all depends on what you're looking to get out of your car.

That said, I honestly feel you'll get bored pretty quick w/ a 944, particularly if you want to drive it on the track. If you'll merely autox it, then your boredom will be held at bay a little longer

The 951 will get gradually faster and faster each time you take it into the shop.

This is due to the reduction of weight in your wallet everytime you leave.
