Question Mystery liquid under car.

I keep finding small amounts of a clear liquid that looks like water, but has a sweet smell to it and it is slipperier than water. Smells kind of like syrup.

It is near the front of the car on the drivers side, kind of by the a/c system.

Any ideas?

Coolant leak? Lots of coolant hoses around there, to the crossover pipe, turbo/turbo water pump.

When mine did that it was the turbo water pump. First check that the pump is working, just start the car with the hood open and then turn it off. Usually you can hear the pump, but some are indeed very quiet, but you can put your hand on it and feel it running.

Regards,
Russell

No matter how good it tastes, do not drink it.

I feel quite stupid. It's coolant. I found a spot of it on the bottom of a hose above the alternator. It looks like maybe a line from the turbo waterpump. I then found my new least favorite thing to do, drain the coolant. Quite the surprise when I had the wife pull the tank cap up top, mega flow baby!! I used a piece of roof flashing to guide the coolant flow to my tub. It worked ok, though some made its way across the bottom radiator support. Great design.

Maybe it's soy bio-coolant?

Coolant drained, now to move to the replacing of the heater control valve and probably the turbo water pump. The last time I drove it the pump was squealing for the 30 seconds, and when I got home it would not start.

Question,

I dont have to drain the block to do what I need to do, do I?

I also noticed a drop of coolant on the bottom of the starter, which seemed to me to be far behind anything that may be possibly leaking, maybe dripped back when I had it jacked up?

Any leak blows back from the source as you drive the car. Sounds like you have one problem identified, the tubo water pump. You don't have to drain the block to replace it, just drain some fluid out of the radiator.

No need to drain the block, but getting to the heater valve is a pain with the intake in place. Re coolant on starter, refer to your own post about the mess of draining -- coolant dribbles everywhere. To be safe, a cooling system pressure tester can pinpoint leaks very well -- Sears sells them for $60-$70.

Thanks for the info, I already have the intake off so I am just wanting to do everything right now and not have to worry about ripping everything off again for some damn leak in the future.
