especially for race cars.. the wheels or conversions?
VRSTAGE2, you're going with an LS6 over the Stage II you already have for the same car? Or is the LS6 for a different car?
If you are doing the conversion, what are you doing with the motor that's in there now? With your exhaust/turbo/the fact that its a fresh rebuild, I'm sure it would go for a premium.

basics, LS1 = 350ci (5.7L), the LS6 = hopped up LS1, the LS2= 6.0L, and the LS7= 427ci (7L) dry sumped supercar engine.
The LS platform is an excelent baseline. Once you get bored with 350whp, supercharge or turbocharge it and nearly double the power and torque.

and I've seen that 968 V8 car, very nice
Some of those wide body 944's look kind of ugly... I think this body is one of the best wide body 944s:

I think a nicely designed and executed conversion will be very nice. I have nothing against a V8 conversion, however I do wonder if a C5 Corvette will be a better choice if you want a V8.
As long as you end up with the car you want, that's the important thing.
VRSTAGE2, It's to my understanding that your engine was totally rebuilt. Where and why is it leaking? Good luck with the conversion!

turbos need time to spool up. They are maximized when running in the proper RPM range. Long tracks provide that environment. Do a search. Oh...wait... I forgot that your search feature is inoperative.

Just to add some perspective:
I have an LS1 conversion, I still have power steering and A/C and will soon have power brakes to. Stock with no mods it did 331 rwhp. With the cams and head I installed in the fall it does 373 rwhp (1500 in parts and 500 labor).
The bigest diference you will find is throttle response, just touch the pedal and thing goes at any speed, in any gear. It is cool to feel the buildup of power with boost but big engine response is more useful, imho.

At the track, I don't see any advantage to having a V8 over a 4 banger with a turbo. If the turbo has huge power over the course of 2 or 3k rpms, that's plenty. It doesn't matter one bit that the v8 has power at any rpm on the track.
It seems like for $10k with a stock 944 turbo, you could get pretty close to 400 rwhp at least. For $10k at the very least, you get a 320 or less rwhp v8.. I'd put my money on the turbo at the track.
