No, but I spoke with Mike. Tom Eagn in Alabama is doing mine, he owns an amazing ls1 968 and has done a lot of conversions. His brother Pat also owns a monster 944 ls1!

What brand of wheels are those two guys running? I'm not a big conversion fan, but those are two beutiful cars. Well done.

ps especially for race cars.

especially for race cars.. the wheels or conversions?

VRSTAGE2, you're going with an LS6 over the Stage II you already have for the same car? Or is the LS6 for a different car?

If you are doing the conversion, what are you doing with the motor that's in there now? With your exhaust/turbo/the fact that its a fresh rebuild, I'm sure it would go for a premium.

here's a good article: http://www.answers.com/topic/gm-ls-engine

basics, LS1 = 350ci (5.7L), the LS6 = hopped up LS1, the LS2= 6.0L, and the LS7= 427ci (7L) dry sumped supercar engine.

The LS platform is an excelent baseline. Once you get bored with 350whp, supercharge or turbocharge it and nearly double the power and torque.

Yes, I'm putting the Ls6 in the same car. Everything else will be for sale.

The 944 has CCW wheels and the 968 has Kinesis.

I'll take a twin turbo ls7 please.

and I've seen that 968 V8 car, very nice

Some of those wide body 944's look kind of ugly... I think this body is one of the best wide body 944s:

I think a nicely designed and executed conversion will be very nice. I have nothing against a V8 conversion, however I do wonder if a C5 Corvette will be a better choice if you want a V8.
As long as you end up with the car you want, that's the important thing.

VRSTAGE2, It's to my understanding that your engine was totally rebuilt. Where and why is it leaking? Good luck with the conversion!

what was it about why the turbo would be better on the open road/long tracks?

turbos need time to spool up. They are maximized when running in the proper RPM range. Long tracks provide that environment. Do a search. Oh...wait... I forgot that your search feature is inoperative.

Just to add some perspective:

I have an LS1 conversion, I still have power steering and A/C and will soon have power brakes to. Stock with no mods it did 331 rwhp. With the cams and head I installed in the fall it does 373 rwhp (1500 in parts and 500 labor).

The bigest diference you will find is throttle response, just touch the pedal and thing goes at any speed, in any gear. It is cool to feel the buildup of power with boost but big engine response is more useful, imho.

Seems reasonable.. No matter how little lag you have on a turbo car, you have to wait a little bit longer than on a big displacement engine for big power response.

I think this really just comes down to personal preference and what the application of the vehicle is. If its just for around down driving, then its PURELY personal preference.. which do you like the feel of more.. However a v8 conversion will beat a 2.5 liter turbo engine off the line anyday (although at this point maybe your tranny won't last long and perhaps you should consider an american muscle car)...

At the track, I don't see any advantage to having a V8 over a 4 banger with a turbo. If the turbo has huge power over the course of 2 or 3k rpms, that's plenty. It doesn't matter one bit that the v8 has power at any rpm on the track.

It seems like for $10k with a stock 944 turbo, you could get pretty close to 400 rwhp at least. For $10k at the very least, you get a 320 or less rwhp v8.. I'd put my money on the turbo at the track.

On the track the guy with the turbo will have to work a little harder than the guy with the v8 because the v8 has a broader powerband. Another issue you may want to take into account is the fact that the ls1 engine is more reliable and cheaper to fix than the turbo engine. I am sold to the turbo and I would not change the blast of the turbo over the flat torque of the v8 but that's my personal preference.
