ATTENTION FL LISTERS... ANYONE have a JBOOT
Hey guys, another fun filled week in the life of 951 ownership.
Heres the deal: My car is making some aweful noises. It sounds like there is a rock tumbler around my motor. The sound is pretty loud. As well my voltage is dropping and then back to normal, dropping, normal. My "I" ligh ton the dashboeard is also coming on. I was told today that this could be a bad alternator. The bearings in this case making the awful racket. I didnt think alternator at first because ive never heard of the bearings going bad, but im thinking its the culprit now. Have you guys had this happen to you? I think I cant drive it anymore, so in the morning im going to rip into it.
Any thoughts are appreciated!
Thanks
Dustin

Sounds like it could be the alternator. I've had to replace mine twice. I don't think they like the constant hi-rpm of track use.
Here's a tip. You can remove the thing without draining the coolant and removing coolant hoses. Once you get the alternator disconnected, drop the tail end of it and it should come out as you push some coolant hoses aside. It's a tight fit but it will come out.
Of course, when you're done, you will swear they built the car around the alternator....
