On the tranny, lets see what the experts say.

Oh, how do you like your KWs?

I just had the KW's installed so haven't really had a chance to test them out. They definately are firmer than the stock M030's though.

FYI, the fins are exactly the same size as stock. Here is a pic of my stock tranny:
Looks the same to me too. I guess the only way to know for sure is to take it apart. I know something was done to the tranny though since it's now an LSD and I'm told this car came from the factory without one.

Hey E, glad to see some pics of the underneath of the car. Any updates with the car, weren't you doing something with the turbo? Refresh us...

Old turbo was pushing oil out the exhaust. So I replaced the turbo with a new one. Still pushing oil out the exhaust. So I put a restrictor on the feed line to the turbo. Still pushing oil out the exhaust. So I replaced the scavenge pump with a new one and for a while it was fine. Then started pushing oil out the exhaust. Pulled turbo again and had it checked. All is good. Took it to a shop to do timing belt/water pump/front main seal. Had them put the turbo back in. They found out that the pulley on the oil scavenge pump had lost it's set screws and key and thus wasn't actually turning the pump that pulls oil out of the catch can on the turbo. New set screws and key installed - this time with loctite.

I also had them install the suspension (charlie arms, KW V3's, Kokeln Sway bars, Dynatech Camber Plates, etc.) Car smoked something bad while driving between shops which I figured was just the oil in the exhaust because the compression test came back good (140/130/140/130). I just took it out for a little rip to around 1.4 bar and blew all the oil out of the exhaust. Now it's running with no smoke! Perfect! There are few other things to work out (high idle, pulsing boost, small oil leak, etc) but over all it's doing fine.

Based on the cosmoline on the fins (implying the stock case) and the stock size CV joints I wouldn't expect it to be an S or RS transmission--these all have larger 930 sized CV joints and the output flanges on the transmission are correspondingly larger. Doesn't mean it hasn't had internal work on it, just don't think it's a motorsports transmission.

Not sure I understand the question. How far out from stock do they stick out? Is that what you are asking? I don't know off hand but I can take a measurement if you like.

On another note, we were dynoing a turbo NSX in my garage (it made 360 RWHP) and decided the throw on the old 968 Turbo for ****s and giggles. It made 418 RWHP at 15 psi (mid boost). I was impressed with the number considering it was only mid boost. Car was running really rich though (less than 10:1) and we didn't mess with the tuning. It made peak power almost at redline. We didn't try the high boost map though - I think it goes to 21 psi. Going to have to do that sometime. I am told the turbo doesn't get efficient until it's over 15 psi so it should be fun.

Have you done anything to the engine/turbo since you got the car?

I remember Darcy giving me a ride and he showed me the different boost settings.. it had stupid large torque even in 5th gear.

I haven't done anything to the engine other than general maintenance. I added a Tial BOV as the car didn't have one. The previous turbo was pooched so I replaced it with a brand new unit.
