GTR 944 Turbo Project out of Cannonball Run **BMW 550i taking its place on the grid
I'm pulling out of the Cannonball Run due to my unhappiness with the current project's projected outcome. I've realized I'm making way too many compromises with this car and I need more time to make it what I want.
The project is not on hold, it will keep going but I have withdrawn from the Cannonball (Great American Run) in order to see a better final product. I'm giving the body guys as long as they need to do the body work, and when I turn it over to Chris he will have as long as he needs to tweak and mod his aspects of the project to make this perfect - also to do testing to ensure its reliability over such a long run.
I realize many will be dissapointed that I am not running the race as planned, forgive me - however I will be participating in the 2008 Great American Run!

That sucks! I know you were stoked about driving across the US in your completely revamped 951. It's good that you realized that you need more time tho. Now when you DO run in the Great American Run, you'll be even more prepared than you would've been this year! Good luck with the continuation of your project! Hope to see some pics soon!

Good Luck Guns....
This is a total shock to me pal, but you must have some very solid reasons for doing this. I know you really, really wanted to be in this race too. But I can fully understand you are more concerned with how the car comes out, versus, just having the car ready for "a" race. Personally, I would rather have my car to be perfect, than to feel I'm being rushed for the sake of an event, but then again that's just me. So I'm sorry to hear this, but, you can now not feel rushed and truly focus on building a quality project car. It may be the best thing to do. And hey, there is always next year too as you said, right? Also don't forget that there's the 944 Fest every year too, so you may be able to bring it there if it is done on time. Keep up the good work, and please continue to update that thread about the parts you are getting and status of the car too. As you know, a lot of us are behind you and that awesome project car of yours too. It is a tribute to both Porsche 944 Turbo owners, but also the Rennlist community too. And hey, can we still hook up in LA at that party too? I am sure for us single guys there will be some nice hotties there!

Bonestock: yes she'll be more than badass and she'll be quicker than I was planning on. This is officially going to be the 951 to end all 951s. She will be the fastest, loudest, most thoroughbred Porsche around when she's done. This car will make the old project seem like a pansy.

Haha, not so much Rolex. I have some things to go over with Chris about the RPM limit and a few others as well. There won't be any 950 bhp here... But you're right on my reasons for pulling out of the event.
I just felt like too many compromises were being made and the budget too small - so with some more time for the fab guys to do their work, and more time for Chris and I to come up with some specifics this will be an uncompromised product. The refinement of such a project comes in taking ones time at doing something like this.
I just sourced the 968 IC vent and its coming from down under in about two weeks.

Props to having the guts to pull out of the race (you need to remove the link from your sig, btw), but I thought your original plan was to just have this as a fast built car and then spend the time to do one nicely? Or are you just making this the nice one?

That was the plan, and yes there will be another in the works when this is done - however I cannot bring myself to make any compromises for a fast built car. I'm putting the guys who are working on this project in an impossible situation and I don't want to do that.
This will be the ultimate performance 951 concerning a meeting point between road and track. Everyone says you can't do it, but if you leave the "street legal" part of it open to interpratation you can

What, you don't want to be the boyd coddington of the porsche world?
@ him and his retarded deadlines
And as far as I'm concerned, street legal just means it has to have bumpers, windows, lights and seatbelts.

Haha, not really. Its time to do what Porsche would do - realize that there may be a better way that requires more time and pursue it. Since I'm taking my sweet time now - there will be a few suprises to make the masses drool and deficate themselves.
