Splitter re-installed & treated against stone chips.
I finally got around to putting the splitter back on the car (its been off since the fire) - and now I have treated it with a rubber based body coating to help protect against stone chipping. I was surprised at how quickly it took on a sand blasted appearance after the original installation. Hopefully this will prove a lot more durable. (close up pics of the texture are on my track web page if needed.)
looks great. Nice and SHINEY. I have a splitter sitting in my garage waiting for paint... is it easy to mount these?
Yes mounting is straight forward - I drilled extra large holes on the underside so I could use large fender washers to spread the load of the mounting screws (14ga). If your painting it yourself make sure you do whatever is necessary to get a good bond between your chosen paint and the surface of the splitter (180 grit sanding in my case).
OZ, I noticed Texas tags on your car, and also that it's left hand drive, and youre in Australia. I don't mean to be nosey, but I was wondering what motivated you to buy a left hand drive car and have it shipped out to Australia?

No probs... I lived in San Antonio from 2001 to 2004. I bought the car there and restored it (once or twice). I had a lot of history with the car (and a lot of money into it) by the time 2004 came around so I brought the car home with me. I cant drive it on the street here so thats why I decided to gut it and make it a dedicated track car.
OZ, what coating/paint did you use on the splittter?
The rubberised body coat is Sikkens brand Oto body coat. The black is a $5 spray can as I intend to respray on an as required basis since its a track car and I dont want to be setting up a primer/ basecoat / clear coat system just to touch up the splitter. Obviously for a colour matched splitter on a street car the primer/base/clear system will be required and the Oto body coat is compatible with the rest of the Sikkens range.
