It'll be a few thousand to build one - source a 3.0L S2 or 968 crank and then have the bottoms of the cylinders notched to accommodate the movement (it'll hit if you don't). Once that's done it's pretty much conn. rods and basic assembly. I was looking at doing this on my Callaway turbo - estimated it would be about $6,000 when all was said and done - but I'd be doing all the work (except for machine shop work) and assembly myself.

2.8 or 3.0 liter turbo!
Ski is right on the money, by the way thanks for Tom Charlseworths info he made me a set of 104mm low compression pistons for my project.
Building 3.0 liter and 2.8 liter motors cost about the same in the long run IF you do all the legwork yourself and PLAN on spending at least 3 months tracking, searching, scowering, and begging to assemble all the neccesary parts, information, and software to get your motor done right the first time. And if this is your first time your going to make mistakes just try to take all the info in that you can handle! Good luck!

With the rebuild of my broken motor, it needs pistons, line bored, cylinders redone, bearings, gaskets, new clutch. Parts come to about $5000 if I keep it 2.5 Liter. Since I already have a big enough turbo, pauter rods, MAF, etc., the only difference in cost for me will be the crank. Of course that is going to cost me $2500 instead of $1500 because I just can't bring myself to put it in without having it lightened.
Oh yeah, that also includes extrude honing the intake, and coating the pistons and exhaust.
