Default Question: Heat shield locations? Show off your Uber Knowledge

Hey everyone,

So i bought this 951 puzzle and i am trying to piece it back together.

The manuals are not very helpful, i still have not found the locations of these parts.

Any help would be great!

#2 is your throwout bearing guide tube
#7 is your cycle valve under the intake manifold (and yours is broken)
#6 is a motor mount heat shield
#8 is for your coolant sensor

The other parts can be melted down into a real weak turbocharger

This hopefully helps you to visualize where #8 goes at the back of the head. Not the same part, but it goes in the same place. Also, #7 and #8 mount in the same location with the same bolts, #7 goes to the outside.

number 1 is the starter heat shield that mounts to two studs on the underside of driver floor pan.
Number 4 is mounting bracket for something under the intake manifold but it escapes me at the moment.
Number 5 I believe is the mounting bracket for the intake manifold.
Number 9 is your wastegate mounting bracket. Number 10 is hanger bracket for exhaust, about halfway back near the joint between catalytic converter and tailpipe/muffler.

By the way, if you haven't done it already, you can download the PET (parts book) from Porsche at the following link:

1. Exhaust heat shield downwards from downpipe where pipe goes from vertical to horizontal and turns towards transaxle.

4. ISV bracket.

#1 Goes near the starter, it mounts on the underbody next to it.
#4 Mounts over the knock sensor and the ISV mounts above it.
#5 Mounts to the A/C-Alt. bracket and holds up the intake.
#7 Stock Cycling Valve, it mounts under the intake between runners 3 & 4 on the intake.
#9 Wastegate bracket, holds the WG to the TQ Tube.

Everything else I saw has been identified by others.

ISV = Idle Stabilizer Valve

Originals yes, extras only if something is deleted. Most likely only the CV bracket.

1. downpipe heat shield- works with heat shield for turbo by balance shaft, of which 5 attaches to for the front of it to support the intake
2. Throw out bearing guide tube
3. Starter heat shield, two grooves at front dead giveaway
4. Old IAS mount, rubber mounts are gone
5. Front bracket of turbo heat shield, groove goes to the upper alternator mount, then attaches to the side heat shield for the turbo. The front of this bracket is the one under #1 runner on the intake.
6. motor mount heat shield - I think passenger but not sure
7. Cycling valve and mount
8. Water neck for your heater valve, thermo valve to fuel vapor and TB
9. mounts on torque tube, two elongated bolt holes for wastegate mounting flange
10. exhaust hanger

Is this like the Letterman top 10 list?

1) Starter heat shield – the two bolt holes with the stand offs go to the body (floor) and the slotted one gets sandwiched between two washers and nutted tight.
2) Throw out bearing guide tube
3) The other starter heat shield
4) Idle air motor mount
5) Part of the mount for the CV/oil separator tubes and turbo to engine heat shield
6) Motor mount heat shield
7) CV (boost controller)
8) Coolant outlet from back of head to heater core.
9) Wastegate mounting bracket
10) Exhaust hanger

Yep, that’s them. I didn’t check other folks answers – but you can consider this the ‘teacher’s edition’ and use it to check the others
