Work harder and get your butt in gear!

Well done Tommo... Now turn that load of bits into an engine without further delay!

What gasket are you going for? Commetic MLS 106mm?

Paul,

I am begining to really worry that with that restriction in the intake between the turbo and the AFM, and without a propper or even closer map, that engine damage could occur.

So I would recommend going over to a MAF sooner rather than later.

Hey Paul,

We are all looking up to you mate, you will be the daddy until we can prove otherwise! Nick's 3.0l with Motec sounds like it is going to be some act to follow. I have motec on my V12 Jag Coupe and it is so flexible its just a pain getting it right first time.
I am still using the 60:1 HIFI but a couple of improvements have been made by some motorsport friends.
Just in the process of building my clean area to build the engine. Totally encased in Polythene sheets with an air ioniser to take static and dust out of the air! Yes a bit **** I know, but can't be too careful. Even the torque wrenches have been back to Snap On for calibration!
Jon, in the past when building race engines I have always lock wired the rod caps/ Mains Caps . In your experience would you recommend this??

Cheers
Tom

Tom,
I would not lockwire them, especially not the rod end caps.

What rods are you using? are you going to tighten the rod fasteners to torque, stretch or fight the stress of trying to get the fasteners within spec of both torque and stretch?

Well done with having the right attitude to your engine build (clean room), even if you suspect you are going over the top, just remember the phrase "start as you mean to go on"

Great news. I have just been in contact with another 944 specialist here in the UK and his personal 3.0L conversion is just about finished. This means that when I organise the 4th annual UK Dyno Day later on this summer I am hoping that I will have at least FOUR cars with 3.0L or greater (myself,Nick968, Tommo and now Hartech).

It may take us Brits a while to get going but once we do there's no stopping us

Great stuff paul! Delighted your car is up and running, cant wait to see how far you take it in the power stakes, it will be huge i'm sure there was a time my 2.8 was top of the heap over there, not any more though

Have fun with it!

John.

Hi Jon

I am using Pauter rods was going for stretch over torque as I have found that when using ARP bolts Torque generally comes up just before stretch.
On the subject of another project, are you planning on doing a 16v 3.2? Just something I have lined up for when the 944 Turbo retires from Road duty!

Cheers
Tom

Paul, make that 5 or 6 three point somethings at the next dyno day.

Tommo, we have something rather exciting in the works at the moment. I cant go into it at the moment because... well to be honest, some of it may just not work!

John my friend, you have an awesome car, so don't kid yourself pal. It isn't everyday that someone with a 944T makes it into two world famous Porsche publications! Kudos to you! Both you and Paul have great cars, and are a great asset to our community. But post more pics of your newly painted car and tell us more!! Great car pal!

dude this is the year of the 951...totally I'm way impressed with the number of guys stepping up to the plate to go for the 3 liter cars. Our community will benifit greatly from this.

I love it! Paul's car is one of the biggest displacements I've seen on Rennlist since I've been here, and I'm very excited for him too. I think, as I've said several times, that 2007 will be a great year for us as a whole! Lot's of great projects underway all across the world!

2007 seems to be a year of the 3.0 liter engines. Here in Finland we have at least two 3.0 projects going on. One is my friends Pete's car and another one is my own project. Pete is building a sleeved engine and my engine is based on a S2 block. So it's quite many projects going on in Sweden-Finland-Estonia.

Stock 2.5l is going to be the exception, not the norm, in the near future!
As we know also Porsches have always 'Boxed above their weight' so the cars making 400hp and upwards are really going to scare a lot of much higher profile cars on the road and the track in the next few years. Who knows what 2008 will bring?????

Hi Jon, I do plan to have you install a MAF soon but are you saying that I should not run the car on track in it's current guise? The guys at Weltmeister Dyno assured me my AFR's were safely between 11:1 and 12:1 and at the current setting I am getting no detonation. So though I am well down on power the AFR graph made me think I was at least safe:

Size: 81.6 KB

The last thing I want to do after all this effort is cause some damage that will compromise the car in future but I was hoping to get used to the car in stages.

Maybe I should cancel my track days for a while and spend the savings on the MAF but turn the boost down very low to 6psi for example. This should still see me over the 300bhp mark
