Its sad to see Porsche enthusiasm morphed into unknowing babble...."Amrican cars don't handle, can't brake and have plastic interiors"....whatever dude
I agree its sad to see. I end up defending alot of cars on here because on rennlist people wanna believe their porsche is the king of the road. Most people do very little time studying other auto's and just spout out crazy bs.

Case in point the thread about the kid asking about his modded 951 vs his friends modded galant vr4.

People just kept posting up bull**** like "you'll pull him up top" "those things fall on their faces at 120 plus" ect yada yada yada.

all bull****. Fact is most people only study whats in their little world and don't know much outside of it. This isint just porsche people this is the car community at large. I find myself very different from most because im a true auto enthusaist and I love cars. Especially sports cars regardless of the badge on the hood.

*edit* I wanted to add if anyone has any doubts about the new zo6 feel free to look me up locally. I could setup a nice run for you. then maybe the track junkies can take one around MSR and spank the **** outta there 996 like it was left for dead.

Z06s are awesome all the way around and have more technology in them and engineering grunt behind them than about anyhting out there.

Unconventional and it works......look at the leaf springs that would make most 951s go back country trying to follow.

the most incredible thing about a Z06...and all C6s for that matter...is the amount of money GM loses selling them at MSRP just to be in the segment at that price point....money losing proposition that can't last forever so get one while you can and have $70k car that will vaporize 95% of the Porsche on the road

With all your respects my friend, I think most of this "forum yunkie" have express a great deal of apprecieation and respect for this car. It is a great sport car!

but it is not everyones cup of tea. Their is nothing highly technical about the ZO6. It is simply a case of power-to-weght ratio. 505 Bhp on a 3000 pound car. iti is a no brainer, specially if it comes from 7 liters of pushrod American V8. If you ask me, engine wise, the Mazdaspeed 3 is more advance then the ZO6. Chassis, wise, using aluminun is nothing new nor is fiber glass.

So you see, The ZO6 is extremely fast because of its big motor and light chassis. That is it. no magic. no secret their. I do have to give a thumbs up to the GM people how put such a car on the road for very little money.

Regards,
AL

From Joe:
"In fact if there wasn't such a stigma of the mid life crisis guy buying a vette to satisfy himself, I might buy one."

That's exactly the reason I didn't buy one.
Although, Joe, you're young looking enough, that you're not in that category............LOL

I was in the market in the spring when I lost my last 951.
I have to admit I like the new ZO6, but after weighing everything up, I ended up going back to a 951.
It's actually unbelievable that I would pick a 20 year old car over a modern, reasonably priced, ultra fast sports car. But an ultra clean 951 where one has the pride of building up and engineering themselves, is a more unique ride.

Beside, chicks might roll their eyes at a vette (driver), but not necessarily the 951.
It's all about chicks and cars, baby.............LOL

But a troll does? Starting a rebuttal with an insult doesn't get your point across nor does it help to educate.

Nobody is understating the incredible performance of the C6 ZO6. BTW it would emphasize your point more to say "mono-leaf rear suspension". I wouldn't I call it unconventional, after all the Vette has used this style suspension for years. And please tell me how unconventional it is to throw a huge engine in a lightweight chassis ?

Seems to me that your the one that doesn't understand. Vettes have been put down for their interiors for years, nothing new. And you seem to be the one propagating the "American car stereotypes".

Gee GM is has been on the decline and near bankruptcy. Lets sell cars for less then we can make them! Brilliant!

Yeah, GM has not been so hot a co. latlely....but has as much to do with consumer finance arm issues than making good cars.....in case you don't know......OEM mfg.s are more finance co.s than anything else and when they foul up the numbers game they fall on thier face and can't do the R&D, mkting etc. to have a full line of competitive cars. Harley Davidson has a larger market cap than GM. "Biggest car mfg in the world" is a revenue based measure, the co. is worth squat, big debt, wobbley balance sheet..etc. etc....but what this gets the car enthusiast is the opporunity of a lifetime to buy a master piece at below cost as they scramble to retain some sports car props by producing cars like the Z06 and selling far far below cost...and oh yeah..factory supporting the likes of the ALMS GT2 effort that beat every car in the LMP2 class above it at LeMans this year where the Penske Spyders were mystertiously absent...coincidence...think not. And if Lou Gilotti wasn't saddled with weight penalty after weight he would have walked all over the whole field in Speed GT with his home built Vette.

As for the referenced brake disintegration in the ALMS car....if anybody thinks that an ALMS Vette shares one nut or screw of commonality to the braking system of a stock car...well...can I get the number of your crack dealer please.

Power to weight is certainly the underlying brew of the Z06's potent formula, but again believe 1/2 of what you see and none of what you hear, the Z06 body is full of advanced multidirectional carbon panels.

As for leaf springs....who else has stuck to an idea of their original engineering papradigm and successfully withstood decades of the test of time on the street and track?....Porsche (VW under Ferry) has arguably with low sitting horizontally opposed motors but even they abondoned their air cooled montra when they couldn't find a way to make it work any longer...probably smart.....could have made it work but not in a financially feasible way, Porsche is the most profitable car company in the world and told the US capital markets / NYSE to take a hike just before a planned US public offering after Sarbanes Oxley took effect..."thanks but no thanks...don't need your countries liquidity with so many strings attached".....GM is for sure in big trouble and LBO king Carl Icahn and other sharks are circling.

My point....b/c of their troubles you can get an awesome awesome car for well under production costs b/c of those troubles...and....you very palinly & simply don't know know what you're talking about saying a Z06 has no tech and is no good....check out lap record for street cars at Nurburgring....if that isn't a Porsache in your face I don't know what is.

I am a life long 951 and many other Porsche model die hard....have worked as an auto industry investment banker and on legal and finance side for hi profile intl. pro racing concerns..... lets keep it real for real car people...please.....and not profess to know about what we are clueless.

I will say... a lot of folks on here are very very knowing of 951s to the nth degree and I have gleened gobs of very useful info from tham....thanks

Ok here is a good question

How can a 997 GT3 that weights 75 Kg more(1319 vs 1395), that has 85 Bhp less(500 vs 415), from a engine that is about have the size(7L vs 3.6L), that has smaller rolling stock( tires), be as fast or faster than ZO6?

For that you need very clever engineering, and for the people who can afford it well worth the extra 30 grand.

What do you guys think?

Regards,
AL

Porsche always performed to the highest standards when it comes to performance, starting from the old man's days at Auto Union, to the 50's,60's,70's etc.etc. Fact.

OK = so now we're from the "car is a piece of junk" to it isn't up to a 997 GT3, which by date, the car there isn't even a US model the first of which hit the US shores in the last month

And...it does appear that the 997 referenced is an unqualified - self reported time

The 997 in front of the Z06 is a RS.....find one here and I'll give you a dollar and a Frito

You all are funny, a Z06 is no joke and cost 70k, yeah the time is w/ a big time pro driver but still...come on....we went from the car is a piece of shiyaaat w/ no brakes to lap times w/ half million dollar v10 Carrera GTs and sundry exotics

One of this year's vette LeMans drivers - Max Papis - is a personal friend of mine and I worked with him in the glory days of IMSA when he won LeMans and the 36 hours of Florida in the Ferrari 333SP, he drives a US spec Z06 as one of his personal cars and he will tell you that for a street car it is one of the best out price notwithstanding......can we please just tell the guy who said a Z06 couldn't brake and was a POS that he hasn't a clue and move on?

But then again...I do like the banter.....keep it rollin' so I have something to look at and laugh

Everyone here agrees that the ZO6 is an awesome machine.... we even corrected our own about the 'brakes' issue.

What exactly do you have to prove?

Go troll somewhere else.

Dollar for dollar....the Corvette ZO6 can kick the **** out of any Porsche.

Dollar for Dollar you are talking C6 ZO6 vs. a Cayman S.....LOL!!!!! not much of a race there...on any track.

Carrera GT you ask???? Put 350K into a ZO6 and see what kind of car you have and still cheaper than a GT.

Stop and really think about that. Buy a C6 ZO6 and then take it to the top Corvette tuners in the country and give them a check for $350,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a nice day

I see it in a different way, buy a audi/vw 951 for 5k let supa toooner do his magic and for less than what a toyota corolla cost, supa toona's car will put bus lenghts between a C6 Z06 and the 951, is all about boost.

Let me add, that I have not run against a C6 Z06 and I can imaging that i will leave me in the dust, but so far I have not encounter a C5 Z06 that will outrun me in a linear race.

I agree but that route is going for ANY car and just sup it up.

I was trying to keep it retail, new car dollar for dollar performance.

"it's all about boost"

AMEN!! and a twin turbo set up and race suspension on a Z06 will be in Porsche 917 levels
