Default Water temperature sensor installation?

Hi guys I'm installing a H2O sensor for my Aim Mychron datalogger. As indicated in the Aim's manual an inline water coupler can be used to facilate the installation of the sensor http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pro...Product=MC-170
My questions is where is the best location for the coupler? Should it be installed on hoses where the coolant is running from engine to rad. or rad. to engine? Or can I install the sensor somewhere else that I don't need to use the coupler? Thanks in advance.

the problem is that if your car is stock, you have limited choices of where to put something like that. The short hoses off of the crossover pipe, with the exception of one and it's the wrong size, don't have enough room. Now, you might think about getting a new hose from the turbo thermostat to the Y hose and put it there...

Thanks for your reply Ski. What's the max temperature for engine coolant? I need to set a max for coolant temperature so that the warning light activates on the Mychron once it's get that hot. Thanks again.

The fans go to high speed on my car at 102 deg C (215.6 deg F), that should be about as high as it gets if everything is working OK. Maybe set it at 105 deg C (221 deg F). You might look for the numbers on the radiator temp switch, I think there is another switch with higher settings than mine.

This is just a light? If you have the lower temp thermostat and thermal switch, I'd do 200. If you have all of the higher temp items, 215-220.

Ski, it sounds like I have the higher temp switch. What are the trip points for the lower one?

Lou, your right in line with the lower temp stuff at 82C...I was suggesting the light be set at a lower temp just to heighten awareness - sorry.

Our track car doesn't get above 190 and we ran it back to back 20 minute sessions the other day. I'm convinced that the opening at the back of the head, that normally goes to the heater valve, we hooked up a hose and ran it back to the pipe that returns water to the water pump, ie the piipe over the exhaust manifolds. In that hose from the head to the pipe, we put a Tee and installed our extra temp gauge there. The max I saw at Hallett the other day was water 190

Why not log the voltage coming from one of the two stock sensors?

That's a great idea beab951! I'll ask Aim about it and I'll pobably need voltage sensors to log the voltage. I won't have to worry about placement of the inline water coupler if it works. thanks

My theory was that the light should not come on until the fans are on high and the temperature is still climbing.

So, the lower temperature switch is set at 82 deg C and ???
