Changing a clutch on a 951 on jackstands sucks majorly....
Went over to BlacknRedGT's place this sunday after installing a new dash and engine in someone else's 944. He has an 89 951 with a leaking RMS that he wanted to get taken care of and since you have to get under the clutch - might as well replace it - "while your in there"........
Anyway, his car is badass - and will be even more badass when we get the clutch stuff finished and we bolt on the rest of the go-fast bits. I have read about people doing the clutch, but I had never done a clutch change with the engine in the car - it's a whole lot of no fun. But, we got it all apart - so we are halfway there.
So there is my public service announcment for the day.

Sorry I wasn't able to make it Daniel (I was the guy in SA that was supposed to show up). I got tied up with work. I'll keep in touch with Robert and see if you guys need another hand next weekend. I've been dreading the clutch job on my 951 for some time.

Yup changing the clutch on jackstands definetily sucks I did it for my clutch change. Make sure you notch your bellhousing before you put it back in where he reference sensors are. This will make it so you dont have to pull them if you ever have to get the bellhousing off again

I can give minimal advice, but tell horror stories...Red1 (Brian) who helped me out on mine is much more experienced. He did his on his back, and helped me with a good part of mine as well. Notching the bell housing helps a ton for future work in there...getting those sensors out -- actually the sleeves in there is a B****
Be sure to use all new bolts on the flyweheel, etc etc...and whatever you do, don't use an impact gun to tighten! The last idiot in my car before me(the present idiot) apparently tightened them all down with impact...not fun at all when you have to drill out more than you can wrench out!

Verasol(sp?) parts cleaner is really good. Castrol super clean is damn good too but it can leave them little looking a little chalky after rinsed, nothing a bit of WD 40 won't cure.

Yes I did an oil pan gasket and a clutch, RMS at the same time on jackstands. I really hate getting the bellhousing out of the firewall area. Don't ya love the pressure plate bolts!
