Russ,
Can you comment about your recommended boost pressures with your chips using 91octane fuel specifically so that there is no knock?

Hi Rick,

I'll use an example posted formerly by Rennlister George D. He did his dyno runs with a Lindsey Racing Super 75 turbo (lots of volume) at 22psi on 91 octane fuel with A/F ratio below 12.0:1, well below knock level. I have personally run 25psi on a '86 with a K26/6 with A/F of 11.8 on 92 octane fuel. And of course these are USA octane ratings.

Having said that, what you can do and what you should do are two different things. I have built extensive safety margins into the chips before I tell people they can run up to 25psi boost. And preface that statement with the fact that your boost level goal is dependent upon your turbo size and fuel injector capability as well. If someone tells me they plan to run 20+psi I recommend they use the -2 degree timing retard to help protect against knock. That's a precautionary measure. Actually few heed my recommendation. I know a lot of my clients are running 20+psi, some with big turbos, and none choose to use the retard setting.

Regards,
Russell

No, your engine is well suited to higher boost. So long as your A/F remains constant you are fine. Like I said, it's a precautionary measure against knocking.

See Todd the thing is I unfortunately don't get as much info about the car and driving habits from everyone like I have you and others here. Sometimes I get payment and a note saying something like "Car 89, 28 yes, turbo 28 too?". And then no response from emails asking for more info. So I have to try to get this person a good product based on almost no information. So I have to make recommendations that will steer the customer to his own safe operating parameters accordingly.

I've seen posts of people talking about vendors/tuners preaching to them about not running high boost and saying that they are just covering their butts. They aren't just covering their butts, they don't want you to blow up your cars regardless of what product you are using. You can get an enourmous amount of power out of these engines, but I, and others, can't state enough that pushing a purely stock engine to extremes will break something prematurely. And I think everyone here understands that. But for every Rennlist enthusiast there could be 10 more Porsche owners who have never been here, and do not have a very strong understanding of what they can or cannot do to their car. So when I state "I recommend using the retard setting if you are running 20+psi of boost", it is aimed at the majority of owners who may not really understand the consequences when they attempt to gain more power out of a purely stock vehicle.

Regards,
Russell

Cool!

As usual, a very informative response.

Well, especially since we are finally getting some cooler temps down here, I guess it's time to start really pushing that Super 75

I will still get you a good data log with rpm and maybe egt as soon as I can. Although as we spoke everything looks well in line so far.

Oh, I keep forgetting to ask, what part of upstate NY are you?

I'm located about 20 miles SW of Albany, NY. Right near the Catskill mountains. What you might call "the sticks". Very peaceful, but too cold in the Winter.

Default Website access

I just noticed in my logs that a LOT of people have attempted to log into the promotion link on our page with their Rennlist usernames. My Website does not know what your Rennlist username is nor who you are. I've changed it to use a referrer so if you go to it from here you won't be prompted to log in. If you are prompted to login the info you need to use is:

username = rennlist
password = promotion

If you have any difficulties accessing the page please send me a PM or email me directly at Rberry951@maxhpkit.com

Regards,
Russell

Well guys I'm joining the 951max club. I just placed my order. Currently running Guru chips with no known problems but I'm always curious if there's a new product/Vendor coming on board.

Excellent!

My experience with GURU chips was just fine as well, but 951MAX has just raised the bar some.

Plus, I needed "custom" chips and all other tuners either said they couldn't do chips for me for under $500+ or they couldn't do them at all.

Russell fixed that issue

There's the key. $500 or more for custom chips and Russell seems to be stepping up at a much lower cost. Thumbs up to Russell for hanging in there specially with all the the the flames thrown at him when his chips was first mentioned on this board. A new Vendor to our small community is always good for us specially when they offer their proucts at a much reduced price from everyone else.

Hey cas951,

Thanks for the confidence and the order!

The changes I've made to the performance and to the market have been a long time coming. A fellow posted his initial impressions on the 924/31/44/51/68 form of the 944SMAX chips which will be on the market by the end of this month. Following that will be MAF versions of the same chip which won't require any sort of piggback system. Then of course the 944MAX(NA), 944S2MAX, 968MAX, and 911MAX variants will follow.

I'm attacking the entire market from two angles, best performance, and the best price. Should have been done a long time ago. But now we're doing it!

Regards,
Russell
