Question Ideas for improving spool up?

I have my car pretty well sorted out and it is running great. I currently have a Vitesse chip and am running 15 psi with a LR dual port wg and cat bypass. I am going to install a 3" cat back with some sort of straight through muffler.

I don't plan on updating the turbo but would like to see a bit quicker spool up. I realize I could wrap my headers and cross over to help with heat transfer but what else could I do from a bolt on approach?

We have an identical setup, but I am running 16psi - I am wondering the same thing as you right now.

When do you get full boost? (starting from 2000 rpm in 3rd gear)

Anything that reduces restrictions into or out of the turbo decreases spool time. Cone type filter, MAF, 3 inch exhaust, 4 inch graduated exhaust, higher flowing intercooler.

Around 3200-3500 rpm depending on conditions.

Of those ideas which compoent is the weak link for air flow? And for the exhaust are you talking 3" from the turbo graduated to 4" at the cat back? Would headers do anything to help?

I love the wrap - I have made many datalogs to validate.
I wrap everything - headers, x-over, up pipe, downpipe, turbine housing, wife's trap....EVERYTHING!!!!

I really hope to reach 1 bar boost before 3700 RPM on my new 750 HP turbocharger - I know the wrap helps.

Kinda fond of my SFR 3 inch downpipe, too.

I would say a maf will be the best thing you can do to improve spool. I used to have one and it made a huge difference. Do not expect to gain a ton of power (it won't happen). It will change the spool charecteristics dramatically and make throttle responce much better.

Start with the basic, some items to start with:
- Eliminate any intake and exhaust leaks
- Use a clean air filter
- Make sure your exhaust is not bent (restrictive)
- Check your boost controller, is it working properly?

Now you can start adding things!

Can you post or go into more detail about the results you noticed from wrapping everthing?

Do you think wrapping is better or ceramic coating? Maybe do both...get the parts ceramic coated and then wrap?

How much does wrapping the stock headers help considering the fact that they are dubble walled with a asbest core?

Is there any coating or wrap that can be applied that allows NO heat to get out.

I know we all have seen some industrial stuff that has a lot of heat inside but is actually cool to the toouch on the outside....or just be too expensive???

Wrap everything +

webcam camshaft
adjustable cam.gear.

After giving my new cam 4 degree advance I saw nearly 500 rpm earlier boost build..

Boost + exhaust leaks are essencial on this matter so try to remove all of them + bigger boost pipes and better flowing end-tanks. In my case diffenence in 1.5 bar manifold pressure before and after intercooler was nearly 0,3 bar. After changing all of them

I see boost coming alot earier due to reason that turbo needs less exahaust gas to get pressure into manifold

But bigger boost pipes would not do much if still using stock IC/endtanks, correct?

I was considering the SFR II exh header, but an IC w/improved end tanks sounds like a better start.

ST, be sure to keep plenty of wife wrap on hand!
